They take really good care of the cats, but my boyfriend and put in an application while we were there and we never got a call back. They said it would be about 5 days and it’s been 2 weeks.

Super friendly place to meet future fur family members! Would love to re-visit, in the future, when I'm in town.

i actually have a question, do you guys have black kittens? for a age range of 3-4 months?
Alyssa Kugler
All of the volunteers are great! It's super fun playing with the kitties.

You're absolutely welcome to visit! We just ask that, if potential adopters want to visit the cats or kittens you're cuddling, you excuse yourself so the cats don't miss out on a visit from people who are in a position to give them a permanent home. The cats and kittens enjoy visits from everyone (well, most cats and kittens anyway!), but finding forever homes for them is the priority.
Go to their website and contact them. They will return call or email. There usually is a waiting period unless your type of cat has been requested by someone.
I want to expand on LauraLee's statement. Dogs are pack animals. They will automatically conform to the environment you present them. Cats are a bit trickier. To reference DeNiro, dogs approach with their trail covering their balls, cats make you earn their respect. The Cat House is truly awesome. There staff cares about their cats and seeks to place them with a good owner. Talk to them about your lifestyle and they should be able to hook you up with a proper companion. In my case, i wanted a big cat. I got Ember. A 20lb short haired cat whom looks like a little panther and who is a cuddler. Truly, he has been a good friend to me. If you want a cat as a companion, there is no better place in Lincoln than the Cat House! Swing by and see what your options are! In my opinion, cats are way more awesome than dogs 😁
In order to limit the number of people in our facility, visitors are currently limited to those who have submitted an application to adopt. Volunteers are always needed though, so do complete a volunteer application on our website if you're interested. Volunteers care for the cats, clean the shelter, show visitors around during our public hours, and more.
I would definitely recommend a younger kitten since older cats are harder to adapt to new situations, and be patient as they most likely won't be best buds overnight.
Not yet they open at 6 to 9
Sylvia, it’s important to come in in person to meet cats and kittens, to make sure it’s a good fit for both of you. Also, going forward, you’ll need transportation to take your cat to the veterinarian - cats need annual vet check-ups, and visits if they should become ill. Check around with friends who provide transportation to you for other reasons or with ride-hailing services or taxis to find some options.
Hello, I am a volunteer at the shelter. We typically have a waiting list for surrenders. Please put in a surrender form online at thecathouse.org. DO NOT just drop them off we do not have space for them currently.
Yes
We do have some kittens available, and will have more on a regular basis for the next few months at least. Our website isn't always current with kitten listings, as they come and go pretty fast. If you're interested in adopting, you can read about our adoption process and find a link to our adoption application on this page: https://thecathouse.org/adopt/.
Hey Theresa, The adoption fee for a kitten under eight months of age is $100 For more information check out thecathouse.org/adopt/
Good for your granddaughter taking care of this cat! Lincoln Animal Ambassadors and Capital Humane Society have low-cost spay/neuter programs, if she meets low-income guidelines. I believe that CHS' program includes microchipping. If she doesn't meet those low-income guidelines, at least some local vets accept SpayUSA vouchers (see spayusa.org, or contact All Feline Hospital - I believe they accept those vouchers). Vondra Veterinary Hospital may also accept them.
Please see this page for information about surrendering a cat: https://thecathouse.org/about-us/need-help/
Janice, it's pretty rare that we would take in a cat from Fremont. If you haven't already done so, do contact Catz Angels in Fremont in case he ended up there. Hopefully he will be home soon!
We do have kittens available, and more will be coming available in the next few weeks. They may get adopted before they are listed on our website. The best way to proceed is to complete an adoption application on our website so you can be interviewed and approved, and ready to adopt when you come in to meet them. You can read about our adoption process and find a link to the adoption application on this page: https://thecathouse.org/adopt/.
Kennedy, we do have a foster program, for cats and kittens who aren’t yet ready to adopt. To start the process, please complete a volunteer application linked to this page: https://thecathouse.org/volunteer/.
Albany, we are all volunteers. If you're interested in caring for the cats as a volunteer, you can read about volunteer opportunities and find a link the our volunteer application here: https://thecathouse.org/volunteer/.
Please see https://thecathouse.org/about-us/need-help/ for information about surrendering a cat.
We do sell fleece “purr pads” as a fundraiser, but these may not be the self-warming beds you are thinking of.
The Cat House welcomes any and all donations!
We are an all volunteer organization except for vet and medical professionals. If you are interested in volunteering, come during our Open Hours. That is Tuesday and Thursday 6 to 8 PM or Sunday 1:30to 4 PM.

There is an application approval process. Application is online as well as available at the cat house.
You can contact them via phone, and ask. There is usually a waiting period, but they will work with you.

It was $100 for kittens last year. I don't know if it has changed since we adopted though
You should call The Cat House first! They have a Trap-Neuter-Return program, and it sounds like this cat is part of this. If this is the case, they have volunteers keeping an eye on them.
I believe they do offer a senior discount. And yes, totally worth it!
They are usually so full you will be put on a waiting list for them to take your babies. Maybe if there are dire circumstances they can help sooner.
They do it pretty quickly. The whole process took about a week to complete.
Please ask the front desk on how to volunteer
Try to contact The Cat House, they help with providing spaying and finding foster homes for the babies.
All feline is fairly cheap....but you can always ask them to work with you on charges and payments.
