Gracious Hands is exactly what the name states. My children and I fled from an abuser in another state and landed here. However, we found solace at Gracious Hands. Dr. Sonja held a space for over 30 days for my family because she genuinely cares for women and children like my family who fall on hard times as well as recognizing that her mission, and vision is very much needed. While at Gracious Hands my children began to thrive. Dr. Sonja provided resources such as after- school tutoring, therapy, events for the children, and having marvel characters come out for the children which was amazing, encouragement, several educational, and fun activities. Dr. Sonja actively engaged with all the children at Gracious Hands and understood each and everyone of them differently, and yet treated them all the same meeting them gently, with kindness , and reassurance. While at Gracious Hands one of my children went from honor roll to principles honor roll, earned several awards at school, and the most rewarding was a sense of safety and stability. I was able to obtain my CNA certification, First Aid CPR and AED certification, enroll in college, and gain my independence back. I saved over $2,000, and my credit score increased. Dr. Sonja is one the most selfless women I've met and my family and I are blessed to had walked through Gracious Hands Doors in so many ways. Dr. Sonja volunteered at many different events and always invited the women at Gracious Hands to participate, and by doing this my mindset slowly started to shift from that dark place by helping others. Gracious Hands provided our families with funding for Thanksgiving dinner and encouraged all our families to bond and prepare meals together. My family was grateful for that sentiment because we have no family here, nor did we have anyone to visit. Dr. Sonja also hired a professional photographer to shoot individual professional Christmas photos for the families, and also had Santa and Mrs. Claus pull up in their sled for the kids. This was beyond amazing. Dr. Sonja truly goes above and beyond for the families that reside at Gracious Hands. Dr. Sonja provides much needed resources to families such as a Licensed Clinical Therapist, after-school tutoring, clothing closet, hygiene products, food, childcare, life coaching sessions, spiritual advisor, financial literacy, job referrals, and housing referrals. Most of all she will advocate for you and work with you. She has a heart of gold with an honest (sharp) tongue because she genuinely cares. Dr. Sonja will not allow you to give up on yourself especially when she knows how strong you are. I wrecked Dr. Sonjas nerve because I was an emotional wreck and fearful of everything that was going to help me heal. Running and hiding was what I had been used to and yet she was very patient, understanding, encouraging, and she saw me not that battered and broken me. Just as well as she sees the other families. I didn't think I deserved anything aside from being a good mom for my children. Dr. Sonja and her team helped me see that I do matter and the mask can come off and it did. I finally understand and you can too. Going through Gracious Hands I was able to start peeling off layers of pain, trauma, and many other obstacles. When I left Gracious Hands my family and I fell on hard times and with the money I saved was able to help me and my children. The encouragement, the constant talks, the advice, hearing her story and just going through an organization such as Gracious Hands opened my eyes to life and helped me over come and learn to deal with obstacles that occurred after my transition. I've learned to walk in humility, trust myself, and find that inner strength that I didn't know even existed.Gracious Hands is truly a blessing on its own and when you walk through the doors your welcomed by Gracious Hands. I'm currently living here and I can't explain how valuable it is as a single homeless mother to feel safe and undergirded. The director, Dr. Sonja Chisholm, has a genuine love for children and truly wants to see them succeed and thrive! So she provides their mothers with the support, the tools, the peace, and the PUSH they need to really make sure that happens! I am blessed to be a part of this program in which I get to live in a beautiful, clean home, in a safe neighborhood, and benefit from resources like life and soul coaching, therapy, and classes on financial literacy! Not to mention just the love and life lessons sown into me by the Director! I feel richer already! In my spirit and in my bank account, as I have been able to save some money living here! Dr. Sonja Chisholm is absolutely doing God's work and if you ask her, she'll give Him all the credit! But I'm giving HER some credit right now! She is amazing! I thank God for her and I am forever changed for the better since meeting her! I will always be grateful for her work and her selfless spirit!! ❤️ 🧡 💜 *** update, I have since transitioned out! My daughter and I came into this program October 2020 and as of yesterday December 9th 2020 we was Blessed to move into our own new home... GraciousHands not only gives you the peace of mind your looking for to get you life back on track. But they have a powerful team of Praying Ladies that truly help you see your vision. I am so grateful to be apart of this wonderful family. This program truly works to better you and I would advise the women that want a second chance at starting over to come to GraciousHands...
