Very nice visitor center for the Smokies. Plenty of parking. Really enjoyed seeing all the taxidermy animals on display inside. Neat gift shop with a good variety of merch. Staff seemed eager to help those with questions.

a beautiful place to learn about nature and animals, many beautiful things to buy and take home the memory of an unforgettable vacation.

Great service from park staff when getting directions and trail info. Loved the museum and gift shop. Air conditioning was lovely on a hot day. Bathrooms and vending machines on site. Parking might be a challenge though on a busy day.

Fantastic place to stop for an informative tour about the park. Inside, you will find a room with various exhibits of wildlife, flowers, and others. There is an info booth staffed with rangers that you can ask for directions and tips. A small gift shop allows you to buy whatever you’d like. Lots and lots of parking available.

While I did not see any but I was there in October but I do believe they are still very active due to the fact that2 week. Before I went down to Gatlinburg went up into the sugar Land's end to the Smoky mountains guided mountain trip I was hearing all kinds of bears out and about and present in Gatlinburgand I loved my trip it was wonderful so have a great time in the Smoky mountains national Park and then the
I have seen elk and bears 🐻 in the area. More seen towards newfoundland gap area.
This Google Local site isn't likely monitored by the National Parks Service. Checking the NPS website (bit.ly/2Rr8RL6) it says it's closed due to the search for the missing hiker. I'd recommend calling the Visitors Center. "Clingmans Dome Road Closed Due to an ongoing search, Clingmans Dome Road is closed to vehicles to facilitate search-related traffic. The road will remain closed until further notice. Follow us on Twitter at @SmokiesRoadsNPS for road status updates."
Nice Keith, I like it and that's what I want to find out. Thanks
I've always heard it pronounced as "Ah-lum". But a park staff member will be able to better help you if you call the number above.
Masks required
sorry, i went last saturday afternoon. there was snow.
Use main number on holiday
It was pretty crowded 2 weeks ago
It's open but I don't think the movie part is
I am not sure. That may be a question for the Park Ranger at the Visitor Center.
I'm sure they will if you pay them enough
Right behind the building there is a nature trail and a hike that goes back to a nice waterfall. Up the trans mountain highway is a one mile nature hike also. Would recommend grotto falls on the motor nature trail in Gatlinburg. Very busy though
I drove the new found gap / 441 from Gatlinburg to Cherokee on 10/12/19 and it was smooth sailing...
Call and ask 865-436-1200
I would say past their peak colors.
Yes pack a lunch You have picked a great time to go.
Yes
We talked to one of the rangers about the tour, and it's a ticketed event only, you have to have admission to get in to it. Once you show that, they will show you where to park, and take you to the viewing location via trolley. If you're trying to sneak in, they said they have law enforcement standing by for the event. Nevertheless, the viewing is done at Elkmont campground on the Jake's Creek trail, and there's a parking lot at that trail head. You should be able to just go there a day before the event and still get a pretty good view. (Event starts May 30th as of 2019) Hope this helped.
That I do not know!

This is a valley 1 hour drive from Sugarland Visitors Center. Notable for its scenic views and historical structures. One of the most popular places in Smokies.
It was only open until January 1.
Its not closed due to the holiday, its the government shutdown
Probably. This is a forest route on twisting roads. Beautiful but I think hazardous in the snow
It doesn't look like it.. https://www.gatlinburg.com/event/gatlinburg-winter-magic-trolley-ride-of-lights/
Check local weather. Its crisp usually and traffic is moderate i say
Cant remember myself seems i did see them
Free from now until forever. The reasons for free entry to the national park date back at least to the 1930s. The land that is today Great Smoky Mountains National Park was once privately owned. The states of Tennessee and North Carolina, as well as local communities, paid to construct Newfound Gap Road (US-441). When the state of Tennessee transferred ownership of Newfound Gap Road to the federal government, it stipulated that "no toll or license fee shall ever be imposed…" to travel the road. At that time, Newfound Gap Road was one of the major routes crossing the southern Appalachian Mountains. It's likely the state was concerned with maintaining free, easy interstate transportation for its citizens. North Carolina transferred its roads through abandonment, so no restrictions were imposed. Action by the Tennessee legislature would be required to lift this deed restriction if Great Smoky Mountains National Park ever wished to charge an entrance fee.
Yee-up!
I did half that hike and u can leave ur car at the visitor center! That's what we did!
You have to have a pass to get into the event viewing area at elkmont. However, if you search hard enough on Google you can find a viewing area nearby because the fireflies go where they want. Also helps if you have a friend who smokes, inhaling a cigarette: the red embers make them start up. So you could have your own viewing show with the fireflies if you're in an area with enough dense fireflies. But has to be during "firefly season"
As of last week no. A side note though to avoid being taken advantage of stay away from Marietta Johnson cabins. She never can accept when she is at fault for anything and she will fabricate a reason to retain your security deposit. She will fabricate any reason ie accused us of having a pet on our stay and we didn't. We proved to her with a video of the inside of our vehicle while traveling back and then accused us of staging the video saying it dont take from 10am to 6:21to get 429 miles even though we stopped 4 times and had 3 different slow proceedures on 75. She also went as far as saying we claimed to have 6 but she said we only had 5 she has been the only negative about out vacations to TN. She is a crook and a liar. Enjoy the beauties of TN and GOD BLESS
We walked it and it wasnt bad.
Believe they're monitoring vehicles and only the lottery winners get to go see the fire flies. They are having them park and taking them by shuttle bus. I'd try to reserve a camping spot, they're cheap, and if you can get one probably only way your getting in there.
Laurel falls always open. Cave Cove close every Wed fir cars.
Never seen them I was disappointed this year. Couldnt ser the movie or yhe stuffed animals this year was yhe 3 weeks ago.
