I hear that it is great to bring kids to, but not if they are allergic to fireflies.
Elkmont is the best camping place for the fireflies and you aren't limited to where you can walk yo see them. Bussed up people are limited to where they can set up.
We tent camped there 2 times a few years back, with our 3 children. They loved it, it's one of our favorites.
With any campground monitoring children is essential, the NP in general are family friendly so there are children friendly areas. I read this in the descriptions of the area.
