Absolutely beautiful to look at from the mesa. Nothing like knocking back a bowl and staring at the lights shining over a darkened sea with fiery red clouds from a sunset.

From what I understand after a little bit of research, the spilled oil is from the natural Coil Oil Point seep field. This is a natural phenomena where hydrocarbons and Methane leak to the surface. The platform actually reduced leakage by producing the oil field and thus reducing reservoir pressure.

Similarly to the exquisite testimony written by none other than Zachary Stevens, I too have pondered the existence of this wonder of nature. Upon reading his memoir regarding rising from a deep slumber caused by the psychoactive substance known as LSD, I too recalled being in the same predicament back in '95. Does it float? Fret not reader, as I have come across the answer via the inner-workings of the world wide web. According to the well-accredited source Google, it would seem that most deep-sea oil drilling vessels are attached to the ocean floor by steel cables, causing the platform to float by the sheer physics of reality.
