If I could give them 0 stars I would. I lived in my home from 2018-2022. 6 months of me living there I had mold growing in my apartment. My neighbor warned me that there was mold in all units. I put in multiple orders only for them to ignore mark them complete or put a band aid over it. Honestly stopped paying them until they came to fix the issues. My final straw was when I had mold growing in my bedroom closet. I had to discard all of my things because it was covered with mold. I threatened to call the state health department. The next day the property manager I never met came to my house unannounced. I told him I was leaving because the apartment was unhealthy for me and my son to stay there. I was pregnant at that time. Property manager kept rushing me to move. Did not reimburse me for all of things I had to throw away because of mold. So we finally began to move. I come back to the apartment. There were bricks thrown in both windows. I don’t have enemies. Didn’t have company often. I believe this was an act of intimidation by barker realty forcing me to move. I contact the police and maintenance. Maintenance tried to blame it on the kids in the neighborhood. The kids were too small to throw big bricks through windows that stood 7 ft off the ground. Nothing was taken and there was no forced entry. We barely have any criminal activities in that area. After I filed the police report. I left the apartment door open so maintenance can come back to board the windows. 2 hrs later I get a call from maintenance saying he locked his phone inside the apartment. He asked me if he could meet me to pick up the key. I thought it was weird and made me feel very uncomfortable. There is no way to lock yourself out of that apartment. You had to have a key to open and unlocked. I never locked the doors. I didn’t come back to that apartment to get the rest of my things. Only came back for one sentimental letter my mom wrote me before she passed away. And I told them to leave it in the mailbox. A few months later Barker charged me for those months they failed and ignored my work orders. I wish I would of contacted code enforcement and the state sooner. Barker doesn’t care. City of Raleigh doesn’t care. They will continue renting slummy apartments. Especially to low income families.

On July 14th I had to have an emergency triple bypass surgery. I reached out to Dawn and explained our situation before I had the surgery, that I would be out of work for 6-8 weeks and was worried about paying rent. I had to wait for my short term disability to kick in so I was understandably concerned. I receive a text back from Dawn a few weeks after the surgery because she had reached out to the landlord but he was out of country, so she had to wait to hear from him. She went the extra mile to contact the landlord and explain our situation, and secure us a 2-3 week grace period to pay our rent. This was obviously a huge burden lifted off our shoulders and such a blessing to us. Thank you Dawn for being a great property manager and most of all a wonderful person. Thank you from our family. Rented from them for 6 years. Their maintenance team is really good and everyone I talk to at the office is always very helpful and nice.
