This was a random stopover on my way home. Definitely worth it. Affordable and fun experience all around.

It was actually very cool to learn about. The mountain view was neat. The coal tunnel was very detailed and had a replication of what the sounds of them getting coal by firepower was like. If you do the coal tunnel be aware to dress warm ( even if it's hot outside) and wear junk clothes as you could get muddy. The tunnel was freezing cold, but still enjoyable.

What a neat experience! We were able to take a ride into a real coal mine, and had a great tour guide named Joe!!! We highly recommend going if you're in this area.

Nice tour and steam train ride. Happy to see anthracite history preserved. A must experience if you're in the area as a tourist or even if you're a local looking to understand the roots of our region. The tour guides both in the mine and steam ride were professional and informative. The gift shop was nice and very fairly priced. My family will be back again

Yes you could ... there's a great playground park there for the kids too
Each tour (Mine Tour and Train Ride) takes 30 minutes each.
In my opinion, no, not much walking...probably about 100 feet total.
Not that I am aware of but the guides are knowledgable and may be able to point you in the right direction
No but you could it will be very expensive
The walk isn't bad just bring a jacket it's 56 in the mine. A flashlight would help too if you want to see the highlights a little better. The mine is lit pretty well but the shoots are dark. I definitely want to go back better prepared.
Not at all. It's perfectly safe.
No, closes October 31
I believe they can
Around 18.00 I think to do both. Check their website or try calling the office for more up to date information. Each part of the tour should last at least 30 minutes, the mine might be a little longer since there's so much explained by the staff plus the taking of questions, it varies. They run pretty much synchronized as one ends the other begins so you have time to acclimate to temperature and time between starts. There's also the mining museum if you choose to go at your own pace and has it's own cost. Call Ashland borough hall where it's located below the tunnel complex for more information. Higher Up Park is bonus on a nice day for picnic and play with children. Tunnel temperature is about 50° so may not be suitable for small children. Check for group or family rates too.
They are open weekends but haven't opened for the season yet.
Their schedule says they are open weekends from 10-5 with the last train ride around 3:45 and last mine tour heading into the mine at 4:30. Hope you enjoy your trip there! Its really neat!
They represent the miners... I suppose they could use real people for stand ins. Would you like to volunteer? Lol
