Visited the USS Salem CA-139 yesterday and had a blast. It is a great ship and the volunteers were great and very helpful. Jeff and Jim took us down to the Engineroom and FWD Diesel. We had a great time and truly enjoyed our visit. We will be coming back to visit again and see the rest of the ship. I highly recommend visiting this great ship!!!!

Pros: Outside is very pretty. Free parking. Cons: Wasn't open in March.

USS Salem is a remarkable ship to visit. It's a big ship, unlike other museum ships where lots of the parts on the ship are not open to public, you have the freedom to explore most of USS Salem. To me it's more like an actual warship than a museum. You could easily spend half a day, the $10ticket is well worth it

Great Naval museum, tons of areas in the ship to explore, lots of interesting exhibits/facts. Easily my favorite warship museum that I have visited yet. 10/10, if I'm in the area I will definitely visit again.

Brain is correct. I'm a volunteer for the United states naval shipbuilding museum. Parking is a little hidden. You go to the address we have which is 551 South St Quincy MA. You can drive straight pass the building's on your left. Then take a left. Then you will see the ship clear as day. Brain Bulkowski is also correct, there is a address for GSH that will bring you directly to it. But GSH is closed for good now. Not sure if Google will take it down.
Hats, patches, and T-shirts are available at the guard shack where tickets are purchased. The is also a ship's store on the second deck which is occasionally open. Hope this helps.
No it is not... Asbestos was used in insulation and some old types of plaster, most commonly it can be found in very old buildings and schools as insulation around iron pipes for steam heat. They do tours on the USS Salem, so I guarantee u any asbestos that may have been in the ship previously, has been properly removed by specialists and tested to be safe for public tours. The shipyard did have asbestos, but every single building down there has been either demolished or completely rebuilt. There are a ton of safeguards against using asbestos in new construction. All products are guaranteed asbestos free now a days etc... As far as the "white stuff" what white stuff are you referring too? Not the damage on the outside of the boat from being submerged in sea salt right? Also in your research about asbestos it should've pointed out how microscopic asbestos particles are and how you cannot physically see asbestos with the naked eye. You have to test for it.
I've never been to battleship cove, but the ship was in very good condition. It was very clean. All the rooms were in tip top shape! Hope this helps!
From a boy scout sleepover probably 25 years ago, they said one. A sailor cleaning his rifle accidentally shot the guy sitting next to him.
$10, if you get there an a weekend with not alot of people sometimes the ticket person will be kind enough to let you come in for free which happened for me and my family
Yes, you can get close for photos.

During my visit, the weapons archive was only open while we were having our stations (before dinner) then after during our free time otherwise it was closed. I did not come across the memory eoom.
