Came here with my kids to enjoy this area next to the river that has become more popular recently with the Hispanic community. I have lived here for about 23 years and now the area is being guarded by very rude (Racist Impression) employees. If you are not a resident you are charged $25, which is way overpriced when you can swim in any other part of the river and park for free. Residents come in for free. The parking lot has a terrible design and you will be yelled at for parking in the wrong spot. Yet they expect you to park in tight lanes and risk hitting other vehicles. We were getting ready to leave when a Hispanic family attempted to park in the wrong area and were confronted by an male employee with long hair. He asked them if they had paid, despite the family being already in the parking lot, meaning they already passed the guarded gate and talked to someone. He did not ask them if they lived in the area which should be the first thing asked. The family member who was talking did not seem to speak English very well. The employee did not attempt to listen to his answer and asked the other employees, who said "no they didn't pay". The male employee then yelled at the family to get out, instead of professionally confirming the address on their IDs, and politely asking them to leave. I wish I was recording this sad experience, even my children heard and asked why he was yelling. I don't think I will be returning until they hire more professional employees who are more patient and understanding with others who do not speak the same language that well. Or hire employees that are bilingual, especially when it is obvious that the majority of the people coming there are Hispanics. This experience happened on 7/30/2022 around 1-1:30PM for reference to who hired the employees on that shift.

I've lived here for 36 years. The place is a crowded dump now. You cannot fish here or accross the river at Old Mill Park during the summer anymore due to the crowds. The banks are littered with illegal fire pits, beer cans, plastic garbage, abandonded clothing etc...A few years ago stafford decided to "stop maintaining" the beach and parking lot. They would no longer station a life guard at the most crowded public swimming spot in the city and allow it to return to its natural state. Now all of the sudden they are guarding the gate and charging people. The sad excuse of an overflow lot is always full. There is some family selling $25 dollar parking spots across the street and there is a police officer on an atv harassing people while they drop off/pick up kids and coolers. Absolutely ridiculous.

Enjoyed my visit here very much. It's quite busy here even early in the morning but it's beautiful and there are nice walking paths that are paved and assessable. I don't see a way to get to the beach part by wheelchair though. Restrooms appear to be only portapotties but there are a lot of them. Awesome historic places to check out. Great birding locations, lots of Swift's, swallows, heron, bald eagles and ospreys and many more. Quite loud from the traffic though. There's quite a bit of litter and trash here.

Nice park, some nice shallow sections of Rappahannock when water levels are normal. Can get crowded in the summer and would need to wade to fish the deeper and faster water.

Is Falmouth beach/recreation center pet friendly?

It's good for dogs. You have to keep them on a leash. Which is best, so you can try to keep an eye out for the pieces of glass. Just be mindful on the walk up to the water. I'd hate to see a dogs feet cut. If you have a dog that loves water, he'll be in heaven because it's shallow enough to run around in.
