Being a tourist in Florida, I have always wanted to see alligators out in real life, because they scare me and fascinate me. This was the perfect place to remain safely in the car and still enjoy the wildlife. There is a lot of 'wild'life to enjoy.

Really nice place. Saw a little gator, lots of birds, evidence of boars, and a giant gator. Definitely a nice place to get in a nice 3 mile walk and enjoy the real Florida.

Questions & Answers

I am disabled and wondering if my service animal would be allowed to accompany me on the trails? Leashed and wearing his vest of course. It is difficult for me to leave the house without him.

It says no dogs allowed but it's a big open field there's nobody that works there to tell you that you cannot have dogs Obviously don't let them go in the water and clean up after then I guarantee you nobody will care

I've seen plenty of people out there with golf karts just observe the area where you can go because some areas are off limits for any kind of motorized vehicle

To be honest with you. I have no clue. But you better check. Wild life is always active out there. Plus lots of noseeums and mosquitoes out there.

Are you allowed to walk dogs?

Yes dogs are allowed. But the alligators are also allowed to eat the dogs. Be extremely careful walking dogs around the lake. We normally see 6 to 8 gators regularly. The largest might be 7 to 8 foot. But they move around a bit. You might have larger ones take up residency. Also watch out for Pigmy Rattle Snakes. They are not agressive unless you get near them. They will not move when you approach as most snakes. Even the 6 inch Pigmy Rattle Snakes think that they are a 12 foot python. Depending on the weather there is a Manattee viewing deck on the river side. You will find a walking trail around the back side of the south lake. That will take you to Sam's Place. It is one of the prettiest trails on the Island. Don't let me scare you away with the warning about the Gators and Pigmy Rattle Snakes. But you must stay alert at all times. If you let your dog run free you have a very good chance you'll be taking the kids to the pet store to get a newer version of Fluffy.

Is this a good place to take my son to ride his bike. He just started riding and has training wheels. I just wanted to know if he could ride his bike in the trails. Thank you.

Their Is a lot of holes and grooves in the ground from hogs rooting up the ground, so I say not a good place.

There are some trails about 2miles long a lot of swamp land. Just grab a brochure up it will lay out all the trails for bike's and horse trails.
