I can’t rave about this place enough. We camped there in June 2022 for the first time and were blown away by how beautiful it is and how much it has to offer. On top of that, the staff is SO helpful. We had no trouble finding someone to answer our newbie questions about the used RV we had bought and were still getting used to. And our camp host was like family by the time we left. When I first arrived I discovered a family member had been trying to reach me but my cell service wouldn’t work. It turned out to be a very ill family member. The kind young man that was working at the entrance cabin, Cameron, went out of his way to help me get in touch with my family. Any park service would be lucky to have him. Each campsite section, A, B, and C, plus group are well laid out. We love how the camp sites are divided into multiple sections. It gives each section a quiet, close knit kind of feel even though each site is really well sized and spaced out. We were in the B loop where there a nice amount of shade. Trails connected the various locations of the campground so it was easy to get around on bike or foot without having to walk the vehicle road, which was fine too. The picnic area not far from the B section is huge and beautifully forested with a creek that meanders along it. We spent a lot of time in the lake which is perfect for swimming as well as kayaking and canoeing. Even in June, the temperature was very nice. The water is clear and full of fish. The people at the beach were all happy to be there and very friendly, just an overall very nice environment. And the area around the lake includes a lot of shaded picnic area and shaded grass area. It’s just beautiful. Sweet little creeks weave their way around all of it. We also enjoyed hiking the many trails. There are a variety from easy and mostly level to more graded and intensive. All of them offer amazing views. Plus the Blue Ridge Parkway is about ten minutes away for more hiking and views. This park offers everything, in our opinion, and we will definitely be retuning!

Gorgeous location. We went to enjoy lake and fish. The lake is stocked with trout with no hook requirements. Admission for the day was 8 dollars. There is also a beach and swimming area, boating, picnic area, hiking, and campgrounds. Gift shop is on grounds, however was not open when we went

If you are coming here to watch TV, talk on the phone or surf the internet, don't come! If you want to hike, swim and fish .... this is the place! We spent 3 nights here and did not miss all of those modern conveniences! We hiked, talked and met new friends! There are miles of trails and beautiful waters! The sites are level and vary from sunny to all shade!

Sherando Lake is SO pretty and serene in the fall when the leaves are changing. It's also a lot of fun for kids in the summer, too. I used to love swimming out to the little island with my friends as a kid. There's a hiking loop around the lake if that's your thing. Plenty of parking spaces available in the parking lot.

I believe they are now fully open. They just stress taking fees on Tuesday
They use to have row boat rentals.
No not yet I went to their website and it said they were still closed. Maybe by Friday it will change.
Yes dogs are allowed, must be on a leash , they are not allowed in the beach area, unless it is a service animal
There is plenty of parking near the beach and before the campsites.
Yes, they are open year round and the gates have been open this week You sure can visit to just fish. Sherando lakes are in the national forest. They are not a state park. Regulations: From June 16 through September 30, general statewide fishing regulations apply. At this time no trout license is required. October 1 through June 15 a trout license is required. A National Forest Stamp is required all year. See https://www.dgif.virginia.gov/waterbody/sherando-lakes/ for more info and to buy the licenses. See http://www.switchfisher.com/trout_content/virginia/augusta/SherandoLakeUpper.html for a helpful fishing article about the upper lake.
Yes
If you have National Park access pass, that would work. I use mine all the time. There is a 21 day stay limit.
Not to get in. Cash or check. Debit and credit at gift shop only. Only know been camping for past 10 days there.
You can swim in the lower lake, the upper lake is for fishing.
Sherando Lake is open from April to end of October. The day area closes at 8 p.m. You can arrive anytime starting at 6 a.m.. Hope this helps
From website: "Lower Sherando is the largest lake, encompassing 25 acres of cool, spring-fed waters. Upper Sherando Lake is the smaller lake at 7 acres, available for fishing only. The lower lake is available for swimming, fishing or relaxing on the sand beach" I don't think anybody or anything is allowed in the upper lake.
It's not needed, but the campsites that are not reserved are first come first serve so it's better to reserve.
Only to those with camping reservations right now
No, it wasn't when I was there
Yup, recreation .gov, but only in C loop, A & B loops are first come first served.
Check in was 1pm and check out was 11am when I was there 2 weeks ago..
Yup
The swimming is only open to campers at this time. They just opened last week. Best to call first
$25.00, we paid less with the senior pass. You can check all the info on Recreation.gov
It's not bad, but be careful, I have a 2 year old and she loves to run off
