Yes to bears. Use the lock box and leave nothing out with a sent of any kind. Was there at the end of June and saw 2.

I camped at Sherando a few times about 10 years ago, did but take bear precautions, and did not have any trouble. However, it's not a bad idea to be careful, secure food away from sleeping areas, keep your site clean, etc. Just in case.
