Yes, they are open year round and the gates have been open this week You sure can visit to just fish. Sherando lakes are in the national forest. They are not a state park. Regulations: From June 16 through September 30, general statewide fishing regulations apply. At this time no trout license is required. October 1 through June 15 a trout license is required.
