The Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve is a wonderful destination this time of year. The flowers, chiefly among them the California Poppy, are in bloom. The California Poppy is the state flower. Though not as plentiful as other years during a super bloom, there were still large patches of the wild growing flower, which made for a sight to behold, and lots of great pictures. Many people parked along Lancaster Road for free, we decided to wait in line to park in the lot, and paid the $10. It is important to note that while in the park you need to stay on the trails, so by parking on the street people ventured off to stand among the flowers. I think it is important to be careful of the land, but it is really neat to be surrounded by the golden flowers. The trails in the park are fairly easy to travel, though some sections were a little steep. The use of a stroller may be possible especially on some of the paved paths. There a lot of restrictions including: No dogs (unless a service animal), do not pick the flowers, no drones, eat only at the picnic area, no bikes. For more information check the parks website. The advice I would share is to be prepared for the wind, drink plenty of water, and lookout for rattlesnakes, as we did see one.

The Poppy Reserve had been on my list to see for seven years. It did not disappoint. Follow their FB page for up-to-date status. While the hills around it have lots of poppies, the Reserve is well organized and their are numerous paths to hike so you can see the glowing orange hills from different angles. It is a California State Park for their is a $10 per car admissions. Take a senior along and it is $9.

Great place for Spring wildflowers even if it is not a super bloom year. Open and windy so sunblock and layers are mandatory. Arrive early to enjoy flowers and avoid crowds. Stay on trails and only take pictures so others can enjoy the wildflowers too!

Beautiful park. We went in February end and there were no poppies and the visitor center was closed too. I heard it opens in March and the flowers start blooming in late March. So, don’t visit before that for watching poppies. But now is a great time to do hikes and watch all the scenic hill tops $10 to park

I have lived in the Antelope Valley since 1985. I have seen the poppies bloom as early as February, and as late as April. It all depends on whether we have the right combination of rain, frost and sun. Too much rain and the grasses choke them out. Not enough, and no poppies at all. And if the sheep could come and eat, and fertilize the fields, it would be amazing! One year yhhe shepherds were near our 7 1/2 acres and we asked if they would bring their sheep on our acreage and graze, thereby cutting the grasses. That next year, did we have poppies! Hope this helped. God bless you! If you decide to come out this year, PLEASE, try to come during the week, as the weekends are absolutely PACKED with literally bumper to bumper cars on both sides of the Lancaster Road. Weekend speed limit during Poppy season is 35mph, posted.
They're starting to bloom now, this season is beautiful due to the rain. Go see them
No. Won't be in full bloom till March to April. Waning after that.
Sunrise to sunset.
Check the park Facebook page for updates on the current conditions. It is still far too early for the poppies to be blooming, possibly by the end of February.
Yes
There may be a few left. We have had no rain, high winds and very warm days.
Sorry there is none left. You can check the Poppy Rerserve website to check the current status.
It peaks in March 1st, 2022. There wasn't any on April 17th, 2022.
No, it's a State Preserve
Hello, all the poppies have now gone to seed. There will be flowers again in the spring, check in with us around March 1st.
All the poppies have been gone since May
Xno need to come on April and early may for best voews
This year the poppies were in full bloom on March 24th.
The reserve reported on April 25th, it says that many flowers are fade, withered and gone, few are remaining blooming. I think is not worth going, better to wait for another good year. Check out reserve official website and dessertusa.com is recommended before you go.
I believe there's still a chance to see the blooms for a couple of weeks.
Yes, it is supposed to last thru April. Make a picnic basket and enjoy the wonderful poppy carpeted hills!👍 The sooner the better. Go early morning.😊
n
It is super bloomed, be there before 9am or expect terrible parking experience
Go early, and on a day without wind. They don't open in strong winds.
Parking $10. You can park outside if you want save $10. Otherwise it's free entry.
Go later
Just the orange poppies in the Lancaster, California Poppy Preserve
Just search Twitter for Antelope Valley California Poppy and you could look at recent posts of photos.
It's a flower and its products seeds to put on the muffin. Go to goggle and find out more details
Usually in March/April but changes every year. All depends on the weather/ rains every year. You have to call them to find out. The best time is just a week long, so start calling early March.
No, we had an amazing season this year because of the SuperBloom but the poppy season is in early spring. The Poppy festival is held mid- April and it's quickly downhill after that.
Probably, but there are now designated dirt trails along with wiring to avoid stepping into the actual flowers.
Peak bloom was over a month ago. There might still be some left, but the amount was dwindling when I was there about two weeks ago
You may still view a wide variety of wildflowers in the local area and foothills. Access to the park and visitor center may be closed.
The hikes are easy, a few benches along the way, too. The poppies are past their prime for the year, check their Facebook page to see if any are still in bloom.
Hello, there are only a few poppies in bloom at the moment. We expect most of the poppies to bloom between mid-March to mid-April.
Waite untill last weekend in March through mid may.weve had alot of rain so it will be a big bloom.you can go now however there will be no color.it is still beautifull though.nice n green as they are in middle stages of vegetation
You can actually park outside of the parking area. But then you would have to walk about a mile up to the reserve. Otherwise it is about $10 per vehicle to park inside. More often than not, it'll be packed.
Thank you for your response.
Not enough timely rain.
Not this year since there is not enough rain. I went there yesterday.
No, it is absolutely Barren right now. There are no poppies.
No appt needed. Went last week and was told at the door that since we didn't get any rain this year there were no poppy flowers. I guess it's probably a good idea to call before visiting
Nope
yesterday I was there, there was no flowers at all. there is no sign for flowers for 2 weeks atleast.
No flowers
No
Later in the spring, although the bloom amount is very dependent on the rain recieved during the year, or lack thereof.
Not yet as far as I know, it's still early.
not yet
Hello, sorry but there are no poppies in bloom this time of year.
Hello Sanvir, there are no poppies in bloom at the moment. The poppies have gone to seed, so the first few will start to bloom next year around the early part March and possibly through mid-May. We hope to see you then. The trails are open for hiking all year, but right now we are having a heatwave (and a wildfire just a few miles away), so check back later this summer or in the fall if you just want to come for a hike.
Hello, there are no poppies in bloom today, they have all gone to seed. Poppies usually bloom in March through mid-May.
I was here 2 years ago and it was best Around January and February
In some parts of the area.
No unfortunately only in the spring.
From the website: The beavertail cactus is still in bloom. Call them and check
Even small patches of poppies are beautiful but Super Bloom is over. You can get more specific information at their website, which they update daily.
Facebook account also gives updates with photos. They are reporting very few poppies.
I havent been in two weeks but they are not visible from around town anymore so I assume they've gone away for the most part
Hello, we have just a few smaller patches of poppies still blooming. The season is pretty much over. The bloom started in early March with just a few poppies, then by late March through mid-April, with had a very large, intense bloom. You can still visit the Poppy Reserve, the trails are nice to hike, and the visitor center is open through May 12.
I posted some pictures right now.. pics from two days ago.
Very few left now
Yes there are plenty of fields surrounding the preserve that can have big patches of poppies and other wild flowers. In addition to seeing super bloom here last month, saw a lot of beautiful fields on way to and coming from here.
Not a lot was there yesterday.
Sorry, but there are very few poppies in bloom. You will see only a few patches of poppies.
It should be. But you can call ahead to ask. When I was there last week the poppy were closed. It need full sun to open. I was there too early in the morning around 7am. However I stayed until around 10am it started to open up. But I heard doing the weekend parking is bad. So go early for parking and stay longer if you have the times. There have couple pinnic table. Bring snack or food to eat while you wait. Hope it helpful to you.
You should be able to see plenty of flowers, but I believe that some of them are withered due to dry and hot weather.
Best answer can be found at their website. They post daily updates. Most of the best super blooms have passed, but there are still some opportunities to see this amazing work of nature.
Check their website for latest update.
They may are but it is getting very warm and dry. I cross my fingers for you.
update of poppies status can be found here http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=627
I went back today, the flowers are mostly gone. The beautiful site that you were seeing in all the pictures from last week, you won't see any longer. You can see just a few flowers here and there.
Check out the weather before you go
Yes, but per their Facebook page the poppies are starting to die out
Yes.. Plenty still. Have a great day
I went and saw Oranges and Yellow. I think the purple could be an earlier blooming flower - but I'm no plant expert...
$10. You can park on the side of Lancaster for free, but it's a longer walk to the reserves.
The bloom is still going strong, and there is new budding too
Yes you can go this weekend to feast your eyes on a beautiful valley of California poppies in the Antelope Poppy Reserve!☺
It's windy today, Wednesday will be perfect.
You need an hour at minimum if you arrive around 8am.
Scooter can navigate on the paths near the parking lot any further it's unpaved and hills, not ideal for scooter.
I was there last week as well. It seems it could last until end of April. But it is hard to tell as the temperatures are going up and no rains expected in the next couple of weeks. I would also suggest checking social network and park webpage as well.
Most likely they'll be gone by the end of next week.
If u go into the Preserve it is best to come in from the West, there was no traffic from that direction.
I will add that you can park outside for free on the main road though you might need to walk a bit
Around noon they are in full bloom. you're going to have traffic and parking issues no matter what time it is.
As always
You do have to pay admission per carload. It was $9 (per car) for seniors, that's all I know.
I think so but I'm not sure how much it costs
David is correct. We parked on the street (the fee lot was full) and then walked for free through the entrance where a ranger handed us a leaflet (i.e. we where not dodging any pay station).
No they are prohibited there by law and signs are posted that prohibit them. Do so at your own legal risk.
Hello Kathy, we expect the bloom to last through April, but right now and the next few weeks is great time to visit.
YES, IT'S HAVE ACCESIBLE, BECAUSE I WENT LAST YEAR WITH A FRIEND WHO USE WHEEL CHAIR
I was there last weekend. The park ranger told me that if the weather becomes very hot that the poppies could dry up. There's a whole month before April... But i did see some buds that haven't bloomed yet..
They post updates on their website http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=627
Yea, now til late April is blooming season, there will be traffic during weekend most likely.
There is a parking lot that could accommodate an RV but as far as camping there.. No This place is only for day hikes.
Not inside the flower fields, outter area is ok, be prepared for little traffic if you are going on weekends.
Call public transportation or call the ranger at the park.
Yes
You need to wait till the first warm sunny trend. The heavy snow usually meansa heavy poppy season. I seen it imid March in past years but since the winter snows came late means the wild flowers will be late as well
Not in the park only humans
Maybe , maybe not. Trail up to hill to is a hard trek. Other trails amble through up and down small hills. If you are physically fit should not be a problem. Just take it slow, drink lots of water and sit alot.
Not in the park.
Some. Mid-March.
No drones allowed is what I was rold
March.
Spectacular views. Wait till March to April.
what a misguided question to ask on this platform ... what madness ???
I've only seen one or two in the warmer months. Don't let it keep you away, just be careful.
No, they bloom in spring. Check the park website for best times.
No more flowers but still a nice hike
They usually start blooming in mid March.
There wasn't much of a bloom recently and I was there early part of May. If you decide to go to see the blooms, you should call first; otherwise you might be disappointed.
Yes, all dirt trails. It has a cement walk to the gift store. The trails near the gift store are flatter and you can take a wheelchair on them.
Hiking permitted on trails only. Also due to lack of rain little to no Poppy's as of April, 2018.
Yes there are construction style outhouses in the parking lot, but there are built in restrooms in the visitor center
Not many at the park, some along Lancaster Rd on the way to the park and a patch across the street. Today the wind was was horrible!!!
With this recent rain and hot weather magic should happen in 3 weeks or so.... Just watch for rattle snakes !!!
No it isn't. Parks.ca.gov Antelope Valley Golden Poppy Preserve gives daily reports.
i went in late march last year and they were in full bloom
