The car was good and customer service was fine. We just wanted to extend 2 hours and they were going to charge us for 1 more day ($70 more!!!). In the end, they charged $100 instead of the $70 indicated in the contract. I was on the phone literally waiting for hours, could not get a hold of anyone to get my money back or to figure out what I was charged extra.

UPDATE: Avis has fully responded to all of my concerns. I have changed my rating to 3 stars. I understand that during these pandemic times, the demand for rental cars outstrips the supply, and the demand for workers is greater than the supply. I am completely satisfied with Avis' response to my issue. Vehicle was dirty inside and out at pick up. Vehicle had no windshield wiper fluid in it so it beeped the entire time (8 days) of my rental. Worst of all, the vehicle had a SNAKE in it! When I returned the vehicle yesterday, I requested compensation of 1 days' rental, and was told "we don't know how that snake got there." Imagine driving down the highway at 55 mph and having a snake crawl out from under the hood and onto your windshield on the driver's side, then slither across the windshield to the passenger side. Imagine stopping to get help to remove the snake and having it crawl into the wheel well! I have a video. worst car rental experience I have ever had, to say the least. UPDATE: I followed the instructions from the business owner, and have repeatedly provided the same facts and photos to the email address. To date (July 5th), I have not received any response to the concerns I raised, except for the snake issue. I have never received a receipt for the transaction. And, I was charged more than the reservation confirmation amount. (I was told the computer was "down" when I returned my car to Avis at the Wilmington airport. I have repeatedly requested a receipt. I was sent a non-working link that was supposed to link to my receipt.) I am a reasonable person but today I will dispute the charge on my credit card, and I will notify the NC Department of Consumer Protection.

The helpfulness of the staff at both pick up and drop off were good. However, the quality of the cars were shocking. The first car had a big crack along the entire windscreen. We got this changed, but the second car was dirty and musty inside. There were cigarette burns and marks all over the seating. Even found an old muffin down the side of the seat! I would not trust to use Avis again.

Terrible. If I could give zero stars, I would. Car was dirty and filled with sand when I picked it up. Registration expired 2 months prior so I was pulled over twice while on my trip for that. And multiple things needed to be serviced per the dashboard, including the traction control, which would engage every 15 minutes or so, making it difficult to drive. The ONLY good part about this rental was returning it. The sales associate was so apologetic and friendly.
