We loved all of the trails and the beautiful beach. The surrounding area and beach areas have mot been commercialized which makes this such a wonderful place to visit. I have seen wild ponies, dolphins, eagles and such more wildlife during our stay.

Nice place! May take longer than you'd like to get into, but worth it. Didn't go to the beach areas that day, but ventured into the trails and wooden walkways. Between venturing off and driving out, we counted 20 horses. So beautiful to watch them. People are respectful and quiet, so it makes it easier to stand there and soak it all in! I think this is a great place to bring your kids, too. They'll enjoy it and learn alot. Visitor center before the bridge was interesting, informative, and the staff were nice.

Serene, beautiful, away from city noise. I love horses and seeing wild horses all around, roaming freely was just amazing. A friend suggested this place and i went without any expectation and only to spend sometime away from usual. This place turned out to be completely spectacular!! We made a very good decision of staying in camp, it was windy but weather was just fine. The night sky was so beautiful with no city lights!!

My family and I had a great day exploring this National Park. We were able to see wild horses, deer, and even bald eagles. It was very relaxing and beautiful everywhere we went. We will definitely be coming back.

Yes it does. Park admission is free, and camping is half price, with the pass.
It is a very friendly safe place...people come from all over the world...I truly believe you will love it & enjoy your time spent there...it will more than likely become a family tradition for you and your family to visit. Make sure to take plenty of pictures of the ponies and scenery. Please be careful not to make close interactions with the ponies, they are lovely but it can be dangerous to be too close. The rule of law is not to be within 40 feet of them. Enjoy your stay & Welcome to Maryland. I would also suggest going to Chincoteague Island which is nearby in Virginia it's the same atmosphere. Again, enjoy & welcome!
Pets are allowed on the Maryland side of Assateague. On the Virginia side no pets are allowed
I had to book 6 months in advance to get an rv sight in the National Park campground on the oceanside. It's great but hard to get reservations.

Assateage Island !!! YOU can take long walks with your dog, as
I always park in the paved lot and walk right to the beach. I'm not sure if you can drive on the beach there. When your driving slowly on the roads on the island the horses will come right up to your car and try to stick their head in the window!
