The location is convenient for our destination for beach going. Dinner in the evenings is a close walk (we like to walk if the weather is nice), and there are many options. On our most recent visit, we were awakened around 2:30 AM by the fire alarm going off. Our room was on the 3rd floor so we headed down the stairwell and as we passed the doorway to the 2nd floor we could see the carpeting was soaked with water. We hung out in our vehicle and my husband made frequent trips to mingle with others to try and get info. Portsmouth FD was on scene with multiple fire apparatus. Some people on the 2nd floor were awakened by the sprinklers so I guess in that respect, at least our personal belongings weren't ruined! At about 4:30 AM we were finally allowed back in to 'gather our belongings ' and were told by the FD we had 10 minutes. We quickly packed up everything and were pondering our next move/what to do at this ungodly hour. At the front desk as we were attempting to 'check out' the staff member informed us that no, we did not need to leave, but we could if that's what we chose to do. Communication is NOT their strong suit! It seems the reason the FD told us we had to leave was because they were unable to reset the fire alarm but eventually they were successful in doing so. Staff at the hotel gave us little to no info...no info what caused the alarm in the first place, mixed info on whether it's safe to stay, nothing. Checking out at a more reasonable hour (8AM) and still, marked indifference from staff at the front desk. We understand unexpected things can happen, but it just seems like some of the inconveniences we experienced could have been addressed in a more customer friendly manner. My husband received a survey after checkout which he was more than happy to fill out, complete with details of our experience. Silence on their end... Seems to be their motto...one of our previous visits about a year ago...they issued another family key cards that allowed them access into what was already OUR room. Again, not one word from corporate after we alerted them to this security breach. Might have to find an alternate hotel in the area for next time...

At check in, first thing that was said "we don't service the rooms every day. You will be here 5 nights so you get 1 service day." Really? I'm paying up to $400 per night and you can't even service the room? You had to pay for breakfast. Prices were crazy high. $11 for a breakfast burrito? $3 for a soda out of the machine. I will not be back, in fact this place pushed me to find a different brand other than Marriott. They try to squeeze every penny out of you even though you pay through the nose for their rooms.

Room was clean and comfortable. My issue is with the lack of any complimentary coffee, tea, or breakfast. Recently stayed at a Fairfield which had coffee and tea complimentary 24 hours each day. Even a simple breakfast. This property has chosen to put in a Starbucks so nothing complimentary just the possible filthy percolator in the room. I like Starbucks even have Starbucks stock but I feel like I’ve been scammed. So we paid more and got less.

I travel for work and am cooped up in hotels 90% of the year. This hotel refused to clean my room, and then when they finally did they wouldn't change bedding. I had been staying here for over 3 weeks and refused to change bedding. After longer talks they finally came and changed bedding. As a diamond member this should've been addressed and never occur again. However, this is the second Marriott in 2 months that refused to clean rooms. Some say it is because of extended stays. Last Marriott was only a week stay and refused to Clean. Here at this Marriott, I am staying for 2 months and they won't Clean more than once a week. That would be fine if they changed bedding but I had to specifically ask for new bedding as it wasn't changed. Very frustrating to be living on the road and dealing with this. Am I not paying a new room price everyday? Why has cleaning been restricted to once a week? Shouldn't it be every day cleaned if I am paying the same price everyday? Isn't that in the agreement or something? Very upset from my stay here.

I smoke and have been there several times and always light up where there is an outdoor ashtray.
That was probably an old picture. All the rooms have been renovated and are beautiful. I've stayed multiple times since the renovation.
Yes, they accept AAA discounts. Think they may limit available room types when using AAA code. Not sure about veterans discount.
Hi Janice, the Google guides who answer these questions don't represent the places featured in Maps. It's probably best to call for specific information such as this. I have called them before, and their front desk staff are quite helpful!
Best to just CALL them DIRECTLY, since each location is Franchised. I've been there this & last year but DON'T RECALL seeing ANY Animals.
