Great spot to have a small hike and good swim. Easy going spot great for families and kids. The jumping spot is pretty exciting! Definitely seems higher but once you jump your in the water quick. Dont over think just jump!

Beautiful place for a hike and a swim. Not crowded but it is a bit of a walk! Take your time and enjoy the scenery ❤️

Love hiking here! The spring is a nice place to swim! The sign for it is currently on the ground, but its not too hard to find.

This time of year (Oct.), is in my opinion, the best time to hike in Southern Illinois. Bell Smith has several different trails to take. They are color coded and marked along the way. The one we took was the yellow trail. Make sure you have a good pair of shoes, as some spots may be a bit rough terrain. Not recommended for young children, such as preschool age.

Really easy to get out to. If you don't have asthma, I'd suggest taking the upper route (took that once with the stairs and had a horrible asthma attack.) The upper route, if you're familiar with it, is where the roundabout area is located just a steps to the east right outside the roundabout area. I'm sure if you go out there, there will be people out there who can tell you exactly where to go.
The sites are not very big. There's not really room to turn around anything big in the campground, but we've had a big pop up there. The name of the campground at Bell Smith is Redbud. I'm not sure of they have a page for it or not. If you try, make sure to have another campground lined up nearby just in case. There are 2 outhouse type toilets and no water either, just in case you were curious.
I don't know. You can probably get information at Herod ,IL 62947
I would say about 10ish minutes. We did family pictures there so it took us a little longer to get there...
Not all trails are open all year round same with the camping sites ive in Illinois for years and luve very close to this place i have been there plenty of times abd soon some roads to get to trails blocked off same with the camping sites so i guess it depends
