We stopped in here for only one night on the way home from VA to SC. We had site number 12. a back-in site with full hook-ups, a fire pit, and large picnic table. It was gravel, level, and well shaded. The sites are well spaced apart and the park is quiet and calm. We saw the Ranger drive by 4-5 times between 3pm-9pm. The gate is secured from 9pm to 7am. There is a scenic overlook above the cliffs and a lake where you can swim and also rent canoe's, etc. There were a lot of over-the-air TV channels but no WIFI. We plan to return again so we can stay longer.

Had a nice time hiking a couple of trails. Good place to bring dogs and very nice scenery. Great shade on trail. Lots of large ants though that had an uncanny ability to wind up on shoes, ankles, and dog paws. More of a nuisance than a problem. Park office is very nice. Little museum inside. Hope to camp in future

Very, very beautiful. We saw anoles, frogs, a crawdad, and an owl. Also the cedar knees sticking up. Parking is easy and free, visitor center is nice, picnic areas are shaded, beautiful, and not crowded on a Monday in April. The swimming area was seasonally closed.

Depending on the time of year, this is an excellent getaway. The nature and wildlife is nice, as is the pond. During summer you can actually go swimming in the pond. The view beyond the Cliff is amazing. This park also has a campground for both RV's and tents which provide electricity, sewage and restrooms with showers. For those who just want to stay the night, nice rental cabins are available too!

They improved about 12 sites, which now have full hookups. You can see which ones on the reservation website.
One of the cabins is handicap, but the cabins are usually booked and you have to bring your own bed sheets.
I use specifically the deep woods off and it seems to deter them but those ants are a pain (literally).
Don't camp
I've seen people with umbrellas on the small beach there but no tents. I'm not sure that means they aren't allowed. The beach area is sand right beside the water and then grass. Some of the grassy area is shaded by some trees near the walkway.
To check the availability of sites go to nc state park website, find the park, look at campsite map & tap the reservation link. You can see what is available.
