Beautiful area to visit in the winter. Home to a wide variety of migratory birds and other wildlife. We were lucky to see river otters and a badger. We also got to see a bald eagle which was pretty amazing. The auto tour is the highlight. The visitor center was closed and being repaired. The trail close to the visitor center was a nice walk but we did not see many birds or other wildlife on the walk.

Usually in late Nov and Dec, this is a great place to see hundreds of thousands of migrating birds. However because it's been warmer up north this year, the majority of birds haven't migrated yet.

This place is wonderful and relaxing! Handicap accessible spaces, restrooms, a gift shop and very friendly staff. The amount of wildlife you get to see is diverse and plentiful! Will go again.

Wonderful place to drive around and see the birds. We were cautioned about walking the trails at this time of the year there are small bugs that will produce iching the next day. The bugs will stay until the temperature gets over a 100 degrees.

Most snow geese are leaving the area for Canada now.
Look at the bottom left of the photo, you'l see a name. If it's Kathy Crawford-Al-Chammani you have my permission. You should be able to find the guide profile by clicking on them. Or post the question. Not all of us answer just fyi
6 dollars, a federal duck stamp or a national parks pass will get you in without payment
Dogs are allowed on a leash no longer than 6 feet on walking trail.
Yes, we were just there today. Lots of geese and ducks.
No those are only ones with auto tours
I recommend calling
If you take the path by the boat launch keep going until you almost hit the orchards then go to the river you can usually see them across the river
There are TONS of geese. Sunrise and an hour before sunset you'll see the most. But there are PLENTY of birds throughout the day This is the Google Maps location info page so I would call them if you want expert advice. They'll be happy to answer your questions 😁
We saw 4 bald eagles but no swans
I didn't see any flying around when I was hunting there today
Yes they have. I was there and Colusa NWR Monday and Wednesday. White fronted geese were much in evidence. The Snow geese were not yet filling inner basins but covered adjacent wetlands. Further east, in the Feather River rice irrigation, waves of Snow geese in every direction made the sky shimmer. Sand Hill Cranes fractured the night with their skwaaaking. And congregations of swans occupy some fields, excluding the more timid geese.
You need a day pass or a season pass to go into the sac refuge. Right now when it's open on Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday the refuge is being used by duck hunters.
It's $6 for the day, there is a fee machine to pay at or you can pay at the visitor center which is open Monday through Friday 9am-4pm. You're fee is also covered if you have a Federal duck stamp. There is no shuttle to take you around. The auto tour is self guided.
How about God night fishing spots near willows. Even the sloughs by Walmart and the feilds. Will you get harassed there if your fishing at night?
The main refuge at SNWR is the best spot though sometimes during the day they move to adjacent farms. A quick drive on Road 60 ,north of the refuge, goes east past many fields where they may be viewed. You may also see Tundra Swans.
I believe access to the refuge is open however their facilities are closed
Call 5309342801 there are a few units on the river that fall under SNWR complex you can hunt..
The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge is a network of refuges. There is one main one off of I-5. The others just have camping Hunter's campgrounds, i.e. RVs. I don't know of any of these refuges that have actual camping campgrounds. Better call ahead.
