A beautiful oasis in the middle of the desert. Easy walking trails are great for kids. Make sure to bring water because it's can get very hot!

So much beauty. Bring a picnic or some snacks. Enjoy the scenery or go on a hike. When we come back, we will be doing some hiking. Parking is tricky, so plan to go early.

This place is great for all ages. First, its easy to find as the only road there ends at the preserve. Be aware that there is very limited parking so get there early. There are a few manmade ponds that are very clean and next to them are many picnic benches to enjoy a meal at. There is zero food to buy there so you must bring your own. Oh and dogs are allowed everywhere here. Plenty of shade also for the picnic tables. Further in are many hiking trails with a lot of level trails with no elevation gain for the very young and older folks. But if you want a more serious hike you'll find them here too. And since your in the desert there is no elevation and the oxygen depravation associated with mountain hikes. Look for the herd of big horn sheep too!

This has to be the old trout fishing place my aunt used to bring me to as a child before I moved down here. Not sure when it changed to the preserve but it was probably in the early 90s. As long as I've lived here I can't remember the last time I drove up here. The State Park Service have done an excellent job with the area. Nice & clean. Open 8-5 daily. I was here before opening. I'd recommend getting here early. Parking is definitely limited. Desert X usually has an exhibit here when it's on the calendar. Whitewater Preserve links up with the Mission Creek Preserve & the PCT. Nice place for hiking or trail running. Make sure to check the weather before you plan to make a trip here during late fall, winter, & spring. The canyon which is also called Whitewater can be a very, very windy place. This canyon usually records the highest wind gust speeds in the area that can achieve near tornado levels.

Yes to both. A campground for tents or camper vans and parking for those backpacking into the wilderness. Camping is free, but gates lock at 5pm, open at 8am, rangers live on site.
