It’s a good place to have a little hiking or fishing. We got there around 6:00pm (summer time) but the gate to the upper parking lots was locked, so we had to walk to the lakeside. Wish next time we can drive to the upper parking to load kayak or fishing.

Absolutely beautiful hiking area that is a must-visit in the Charlottesville area. Loses a couple stars however for its terrible trail signage which makes navigating among the trail sections complete guesswork unfortunately.

This is a go-to place for beginner hikers. The lake is beautiful.

This is an incredible area just on the edge of Charlottesville with great trails and gorgeous views of woods and lake. The lake front trail is about 6 miles, is fairly easy, and provides fantastic views of the lake. The trails are great year round, but the road to the parking lot can be difficult to navigate in the winter when roads are icy. This is definitely a great place to get out of the city and enjoy some nature!

If you get there earlier, you are more likely to have the space. That being said, there is a lower and upper parking lot, the lower lot is probably more friendly to an RV.
Maybe the rules changed? There were numerous runners and bikers today.
