I parked here to bike to the bridge and to Farmville. Plenty of parking. There were only a few cars when I went on a Thursday afternoon in June. Maps are available and restrooms as well. The bridge is just under a half mile from the lot. The drive in is a bit rough but doable, even for my Yaris. As I was leaving, I spotted picnic tables and some slides for the kiddos in the center of the parking loop. Definitely a beautiful area, great for walking, running, and biking. I feel like biking is the best option for this trail because of how straight it is, but that's just my preference.

Beautiful and very clean trail with multiple smaller off-shoots branching off of the main one. The High Bridge, of this rail trail's namesake offers a beautiful view of the surrounding counties and the Appomattox River running underneath and the trail runs through Farmville too!

completed camp paradise loop from the parking lot to under the bridge, along the river and back up to do the .5 mile high bridge. easy trail for dogs, no shade on the bridge.

This is a cool park and worth the short hike to the bridge for some spectacular views. If you want to see the best part of the park you need to hike under the bridge. There is access to the river and a fantastic look at the bridge’s impressive support structure.

Yes
$5. The parking in FarmVille downtown is free but a longer hike to the bridge. There is a list of parking lots here: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/high-bridge-trail
Yes you can bring your dog. Must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. We do not have horse rentals and I am not aware of any. New River Trail State Park in southwest Virginia offers guided horseback rides.
No. All State Parks fall within the Virginia Antiquities Act. Metal detectors may be used only on designated manmade beaches and only with a DCR special use permit. Such a permit may be obtained from the park's manager. So no detecting at High Bridge Trail.
Yes, it is actually encouraged. But there are places you must dismount for your safety. The signs on the road will let you know.
