Beautiful falls! It's a 2 mile hike and can be hard at some points, but it's well worth the hike!

Painful yet great hike! If you have a four-legged partner you will need to be able to lift them about 4 feet to reach the falls at the end the trail. Remember that when you go mostly downhill on the first leg.....it's all uphill on the way back. 😁😁 My quads are burning something awful.

Please "like" if this is helpful. The trailhead is away from the parking area by 50 meters back down the road one drove in. It's surrounded by boulders, marked with white blazes, and a trail kiosk is in sight at the entrance. Regretfully the signage by the parking area is confusing. Many individuals walk directly to trails across from the parking and on to dead-end trails (I did it...guilty). Please...walk to the proper trailhead 50 meters down the road away from the parking area and find your way to the majestic Opossum Creek Falls.

This was an absolutely lovely hike down to the Chatuga River and falls. There were a few scrambles over downed trees, but the path is mostly well maintained. Be warned, it's all downhill on the hike in, meaning it's all uphill on the hike back, but it's not a very steep ascent at any time. Views on the river and of the falls were great, especially after recent rainfall.
