Taking a photo of this waterfall cannot do it justice. Just like a photo of the Grand Canyon cannot depict the majesty and power of nature. A short walk on a paved path lined with raspberry bushes will bring you to an overlook of the falls. To the right of your view are stairs to a secondary overlook. Take the stairs. The falls are tremendous and leave you wanting to get closer but these falls are the highest in N.C. at 411 feet. The power of the water looks dangerous. A beautiful stopping point you don’t want to miss.

This is my Favorite waterfall HANDS DOWN. I've been coming here for over 1p years and it'sfor a good reason. Easiest hike for such a great view. It can be very dangerous if you don't use caution in some areas but just be smart and don't do dumb stuff, and always avoid the wet rocks they can be slippery! Enjoy!

Amazing views with multiple trails, if you're noy much of a hiker or don't want to go up and down small trails through woods you can park at "upper whitewater falls parking area" and walk the .5 mile paved path to the falls overlook. But if you love hiking and want great views whole time I suggest parking at the lower falls parking area and hiking your way up to the overlook. There is also multiple trails on that path that lead to other falls if you choose to hike more.

Awesome falls! Plenty of parking. Easy 0.5 mile hike, fully paved. Bit of stairs at the end if you want to get a little closer to the falls. But stairs are optional. The falls is clearly visible at the end of the trail before the stairs start.

Yes. Going north, past the entrance there are a couple of pull-offs on the right. Park at the second one and climb the bank to see a nice view of the upper area. The bank is straight up but rocky with solid footing and short distance, maybe 10 yards. No signs or markings but you can hear the falls when you pull over.
Yes a lot of stairs down to it, but great view.
Lots of camping if you like backpacking too. The Foothills Trail runs right to it from a spur. Plenty of camp sites around the trail.
Depends on what part. Nc has beaches and mountains both. Waterfalls are very abundant, plenty of hiking trails in the mountains. Hope that answers the question
Park closed but can walk into falls anyway. Park on the side of the road, near the gate.
Nope. You have to hike along the river quite a bit, then take a trail to the falls, but you are at the base, not under or behind. It can also be dangerous trying to get to the falls any other way. Many people have died doing so.
For Upper Whitewater Falls, there is a paved walkway up to an overlook that is great ADA accessible. A boarded stairway goes down to a lower overlook and trails that goto Lower Whitewater Falls. The stairs and trail are strenuous and not ADA.
