We went with a party of 8 and walked the entire trial. Possibly a good view of the sunset when you get to the highest peak, so try the evening if the park is still open.

One of the hidden gem in Arlington with just a right amount of length for trail walks in a loop of one mile. There’s one fishing pond pier with boardwalk, one main pond by the entrance, and another one near the sunset point. Do bring bug sprays as there are mesquites out there.

The Southwest Nature Preserve is an excellent place to take the family for a little nature getaway. It is located on Bowman Springs Road in Arlington near I-20 and is open daily from 5am to 10pm. There are three ponds located on the 58-acre preserve, as well as loads of hiking trails to get lost in (remember to bring your Google Maps to actually find yourself lost). Within the preserve we found a snake and tons of turtles in the southern pond, a lizard near the parking lot and a small frog along the trails. All in all, the family had a blast hiking in this preserve.

I loved this place. We needed to kill some time so found this preserve and explored some of ut. It was a piece of lovely, rugged nature in the middle of the city. The trails are like paths and not very well marked but the air was fresh and clean. I walked it in flats and didn't have a problem. We didn't stumble across many people on the trails.

I would think so. I didn't see a sign that prohibited dogs.
There is one bench on the path to the southern lake and one at the end of the pier on the southern lake. Other than that we found no benches on the soft trails.
No it is not safe. Take a friend or two along the walk.
No
I have never seen it posted that you cant kayak. But the ponds are not very big.
Yes, there's 3 ponds, the largest one is in the back of the preserve, easy to walk back there. Catch/ release only. Have fun!
