Alicia was my doula for both my births. When I was first interviewing doulas, Alicia immediately stood out. She has such a calming demeanor and we were aligned in medical philosophies. She provided the advocacy and support I needed during my hospital birth with my first. And during my homebirth with my second, she gave me comfort and tips to help with progressing the labor. I'm sad that I won't be having another baby mostly because I won't get to work with Alicia again!

Alicia is the absolute best! She helped my family during post-partum weeks 4-11, giving us the encouragement and knowledge we needed to feel confident supporting our new son, especially while isolated during the pandemic. Alicia always let me drive what we focused on during each visit, and it is clear she deeply cares about her clients and their little ones. So grateful for her professionalism and kindness.

I can't begin to describe how wonderful, passionate, caring and knowledgeable Alicia is! From the beginning she guided us during the pregnancy, had many great tips for me, and helped me make my (right) big decisions towards the end. My birth story took longer than we expected, 40+ hours and Alicia was so supportive and strong even till the last seconds, let me correct that, even after the birth! Her stamina throughout the 40+ hours is just amazing! She was always there reassuring me that everything is going well, and making sure I'm hydrated and nourished to go on with the big game. This alone makes me want to tell every women, regardless how supportive your husband is, you still need a doula 100% especially Alicia 10000%! Before and after the birth I had many complications, that caused me to be hospitalized right after my birth, so my newborn was left with my clueless husband and mother. Alicia right away came over and helped them in so many ways, guiding and teaching them how to take care of our baby. She kept checking in on me before and after the birth regarding my condition, and tried to help me in all kinds of ways, sending over wonderful people to help with my condition, etc. We are eternally grateful to you Alicia! Baby M sending all his love

When I got pregnant, I knew I wanted a doula for my hospital birth. My husband and I connected the most with Alicia during the intro visit after interviewing two other doulas. We picked the Deluxe Birthing Package and Alicia helped us navigate my pregnancy and discuss our birth preferences for the hospital. Alicia's client resources are a treasure trove of curated videos and articles. We packed each prenatal meeting with thoughtful discussion and exercises, but I emailed Alicia with regular frequency between meetings and she always responded with helpful information and resources. After our first prenatal meeting and watching The Business of Being Born, I decided my ideal birth experience was a home birth with a midwife. It was a lengthy process getting my midwife authorized by my insurance, but by the time I was 34 weeks pregnant - we made the worthwhile switch from a hospital to home birth. My birth experience was nothing I could have anticipated, but it was everything I hoped for. Alicia's calm demeanor encouraged me through the entire birthing process; she gave me sips of coconut water when I needed it and helped me relax through my surges. She supported the midwives and my husband as well. We were in the comforts of our home and there were no medical interventions. Our son was born healthy with no complications. We are grateful that Alicia guided us to achieve the birth experience we ultimately wanted and had.

Questions & Answers

Will my doula be covered by insurance? FSA/HSA?

After baby’s birth we will provide you with a detailed super bill that you can submit to your PPO insurance. This same receipt may also be submitted to your FSA or HSA. FSA/HSA almost always cover doula services, but PPO insurance coverage varies widely.

How do you work with birth doula clients?

You will receive total support from us via email, phone and text, throughout your pregnancy. You’ll enjoy our comprehensive online childbirth class, an in-depth breastfeeding class and 3-4 additional private meetings with your doula. During birth we will be supporting you in-person physically and emotionally and with information and advocacy. And after baby's birth we will continue to support with two postpartum visits, one with your doula and one with a BORN lactation specialist.

Is a doula worth the money?

Stop reading for just one moment and ask yourself “What is a fantastic birth worth to me?” If you are reading this far, it’s probably worth a lot. But the information and skills you gain with The Born Method won’t just benefit you during the period surrounding childbirth. Over the years, you will continue to reap the benefits physically, emotionally, and mentally that you invested in through our program. You can expect not only to have a better birth, but truly a better life than you otherwise would. You will birth your baby AND yourself. That’s what you’re investing in: more comfort, more confidence, more ease, more knowledge, more joy, and not simply someone to rub your back and give you sips of water (though we do that too!).
