Great people! They truly do care about the animals. I found a best friend and the greatest dog in the world. Her name is Zoey aka Helen and she's completely deaf and partially blind but Bishop never gave up hope on her and finally she has a forever home. I'm truly sorry to see them change hands with the county. Manatee County will definitely destroy this place and make it something it was designed not to be.

The manager of the shelter was very rude when I spoke to her before adopting my pet. Terrible living conditions for the cats: living in an open room that smells, using shredded newspaper strips for litter, next to very noisy dog kennels. Dogs stepping on own feces. When I adopted my new cat Julio from this shelter, he was sneezing. I asked to make sure he was ok because I was bringing him home to four other cats. Was checked out as healthy. He continued sneezing and a few days later started bleeding from the nose and showing mouth ulcers. My vet said those were symptoms of calicivirus, a highlight contagious and lethal infection. Two of my other cats who came in contact with this cat also showed signs of serious upper respiratory distress and congestion within a few days. I had to take my new cat and another of my cats to the cat hospital for treatment. They had to be isolated. In addition, further tests showed that Julio had coccidia, an intestinal parasite. So this was a seriously ill cat when I got it. I called the shelter to alert them of the health concern, and they told me the manager was in a meeting. She never called back even though I made them aware that other cats in the shelter could be spreading the deadly calicivirus. This cat has cost me thousands already in medical treatment for him and my other two cats. It is a shame that no agency oversees this shelter’s performance. They should be more concerned about improving living conditions for the animals instead of the gate they brag about, and also have more caring and responsive administrators. Update: Julito, is doing fine, and he is adorable! I am glad I rescued him from this shelter.

Wonderful staff who seem to really care about getting the dogs placed into the right, fitting homes! Couldn't be happier with the dog we adopted from Bishop. He has been a complete Sweetheart from Day One & the perfect fit - probably because our contact at Bishop made sure he was dog And cat friendly.

Right now this month is clear the shelter so adoption fees are waived , but normally they are 60.00 for the adoption of an animal,, they do appointments only and they also offer slumber party for a week to see if it's a good fit for you,, definitely check them out

Well it depends on on what u need it for and if you own a big dog and a home its best to have insurance on it in case something happens...ur dog BY LAW should always be on a leash so u can control it. IF U HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS U CAN ASK ME ANYTIME😊

They will take surrenders but there may be a fee and they usually work with you on a fee. Just depends on how full they are. Humane society of manatee county also takes surrenders and they are no kill as well. They usually ask a $40 fee OR whatever you cam afford. Before surrendering, maybe try posting on some of the fb groups for emergency pet rehome and see. Good luck!
Yes they have a thing called animal clinics on certain days out of tbe month so i would just call or stop in and inquiry about when these actually take place.
They have birds there for adoption. You can bring unwanted birds there and they adopt them out.
Yes bishop is a no kill shelter and so is the Humane Society of Manatee County.
Usually they have plenty of hampsters and other small animals. Best to just call them and ask.
If it was a female, I would take it. My pack is off-balance right now, I can't take another male, sorry.
Im not sure if bishop will take them for free..usually there is some type of fee. However there is a Facebook group that will always help to rehome animals if you cannot care for them. It's called EmergencyPetRehomeBradentonSarasota Or something similar. You may try bishop but they may want a fee. (ive lived here over 30yrs and i know they usually charge a fee 😕) Good Luck!
