It had just rained so all the trails were soaking wet. Not waterlogged, just lots of water on the grasses. There is one section on the ridge trail which is borderline impassible due to the amount of trees on the trail. I made it through, but it took a long time. I would definitely recommend walking around down by Pickerel Lake, a nice secluded spot.

We had our great-nieces for a couple of days and decided to bring them to McCarthy Beach. They had a blast! The dressing rooms were nice and the bathrooms were clean and well stocked. We will definitely go again!

It was our first time here. The staff was very helpful as they all tried to figure out how to uncharge one of our nights and use a free night we had. We ended up bugging out 24 hours early as severe weather began to pop in North Dakota. I've experienced 70 mph winds in a campground and did not want to do it again nor take down a wet canvas tent. We will be back.

This state park probably has the best sandy swimming beach in the state. Great for kids. You can probably walk out 150 yard before getting to waste level. Many camping spots have direct site of the beach, and have a 50’ setback. Really a great state park close to Hibbing. Worth the visit. If staying a few nights, be sure to book 3 months in advance to get the best campsites.

$35 for all Minnesota State Parks pass.
There a few other private campgrounds nearby but i cant remember what they're called. Search the Side Lake town and surrounding and they should pop up
This time of year they should be..I haven't been there this year..
You might be able to off to the side of the beach although there are trees on the sides of the beach. The beach part where the sand is is not to big so probably not there.
Side lake is better for rv camping electricity swimming beach more rv friendly sites
Yes it's one of the nicest beaches you will ever find anywhere. It goes out fo hundreds of feet and it's still only waist high and all sandy.its a dream to swim.
