Beautiful place. Congested, but roomy sites. Make sure you get a reservation.

Very nicely wooded area, clean campground. So many wild raspberries to forage! My husband loved the abundant trout fishing. Lots of different shorter hiking trails around the area to explore and lots of opportunity for kayaking/canoeing. Some of the trails we went on were very overgrown though and we had to turn around. There was sadly no visitor center and no showers on site and toilets were the vault toilets (but we expected the toilet situation and are familiar with that style with camping). The sites were a good distance a part, I didn't hear our neighbors that often. The campsite itself had a lot of rocks and gravel so keep that in mind for tent camping, we had some trouble putting our stakes in but luckily we had a hatchet with us to help. Definitely recommend checking out the fish hatchery that the campground features, interesting site to see.

If you are coming here to fish or get on the Brule this park is perfect for you! Beware however that the river is full of rapids. This state forest is a place to sleep/launch your water craft. There is only one hiking path near the Bois Brule campground and it’s about 2 mi. Other than that you’d have to get in your car and drive for a hike. The park doesn’t sell wood so be prepared for that. There is an awesome water filling station up by the office! There are no flush toilets or showers in Bois Brule Campground. The walk in sites 7&8 are the only water access sites. Don’t book next to the pit toilet as they get VERY potent on peel weekends.

What a beautiful State Forest. I would love to come here again and again for kayaking and fishing. Campgrounds are wonderful, canoe Landings are functional and easy. Forest Personnel are helpful.

There is a couple deep slower holes along the way to the mouth. I know a lot of people just run hook line sinker on the bottom.
We did see some bears by the road side, not near the campground though. We kept food inside the camper, or in coolers inside cars. I wouldn't leave it sitting out, but there was nothing at the campground advising bear canisters and we had no issues.
I guess you can, we did, it's not posted that swimming is not allowed, and didn't see anything else stating that you can't swim in the river, although some spots are really shallow
