Absolutely beautiful place. Don't know much about the mountain biking personally, but the mine lakes are super clear and clean.

These trails, area and environment is fantastic! The surrounding towns are lovely with tons of supporting emenities and dun to be had! The best mountain bike trails and riding in Minnesota!

I feel like this is an under the radar place in MN, it's quite beautiful with so many lakes. We were here couple of times. We did paddle boarding in Pennington lake, the lake was so beautiful and we were surprised by how clear the water was. We had so much fun paddle boarding. We are planning to do the mountain bike trails in the fall. The place is especially famous for the number of mountain bike trails available. I believe there are several bike, paddle, kayak rentals available in the area. It's a great getaway for the weekend.

We have not found any free camping in the area.

Are electric bikes allowed on the trails?

Rona Duvall | Jan 16, 2021
Shad Holland | Jan 17, 2021

I believe only Class 1 electric bicycles are allowed. These are pedal assist (no throttle) and have a maximum speed of 20 MPH. So other eBikes, Class 2 and above are not allowed.

Yes black hoof lake has a trail around it. I haven't tried it myself but the signs show you the way you can go.

We're staying in one of the yurts in February, and a friend coming with us is required to be on call for work over the weekend, so she must be reachable. Does anyone have experience staying at the yurts and know what the cell reception is like?

Nunya Bidness | Jul 17, 2019

I've been to a number of the Scuba dive sites throughout the area and have not had a problem with cell service on the Verizon network.
