Great facilities but omg the bugs. So many giant flys and mosquitoes very unlike the rest of California. Very difficult to do anything outside because of the constant bugs attacking you. We basically did dinner around the fire pit and then hid inside the tent the rest of the evening. Got out of here as fast as possible the next morning while being chased by giant flying insects. Used the entire bottle of Off spray to no effect.

Beautiful campground. Nice clean flushable toilets. Multiple trail options, including the Doane valley nature trail that is good for all ages. Great place to see some beautiful birds. There are no restaurants nearby, so good to be well prepared with food options.

Well maintained campground with hot showers. even hot water was available from the bathroom tab. Kids enjoyed Junior Range program at the ampitheater parking was limited at the camp site. Some people were fishing at the pond. Somehow bee were everwhere and even 911 visit the camp site due to bee sting

Most of it is first come first serve, and about 10 spots are reservable through California State Parks. I recommend the first come first serve spots more than the reservable spots though.

Are there tent sites available that are more primitive, aside from the designated sites with built-in fire pits? In other words...a site without a picnic table. Thanks!

Not really, but curtain sites around the edge feel more private. You could get sites 25 &26 and you won't be sad about it.
