I had full mouth implants several years ago. I’m very satisfied with the implants and with the excellent care since. The hygienist Ms Myhrun takes great care of me, answers my questions, offers helpful suggestions to protect my dental health. She friendly and respectful and very much an asset to Permadontics . Some of the best dental staff in San Diego. Period. I have gone to at least 10 different dental offices in San Diego and this one beats them all, honestly.

The Dental Implant staff at PermaDontics have been great! They really know dental implants because thats all they do. I went to several dentists before deciding to go with PermaDontics but none of them knew enough about the dental implant procedure to make me feel confident in their ability to get the job done. PermaDontics did. I'm really happy to be getting my dental implants from the PermaDontics team!

Questions & Answers

Are dental implants as strong as real teeth?

Tim O'Keefe | Aug 23, 2020
Ian Aires | Aug 23, 2020

Dental implants are made from Titanium and are actually stronger than natural teeth. The dental implant is a cylinder of titanium that actually replaces the root of the tooth and acts as an anchor for the tooth itself that one sees in the mouth. The tooth itself is replaced by a material called zirconia which is also stronger than a natural tooth.Permadontics is the only dental office in San Diego with an in-house zirconia lab where the teeth are custom fabricated for each of our patients

I have dentures now for about almost 2 years and with those years my gums hurts my mouth is always soar dont know what to do...

Unfortunately our gums are not made to support the pressure that dentures put on our gums and that is why your gums hurt.I'm sorry to hear but there is a permanent solution. This is why in the late 1970's research was done to see what other options to dentures people could have who have missing teeth. Titanium implants have now been shown to be extremely successfull even more so than other dental proceedures. At Permadontics all we focus on is restoring missing teeth with dental implants.

Why a Zirconia implant vs another choice like titanium?

A google search found that "Clinical studies have shown zirconia to be as good or even better than titanium in terms of osseointegration. This is due to the high level of contact between the dental implant and the jaw bone, allowing the bone to fuse firmly with the implant, resulting in good osseointegration." Pubmed syas "To inhibit bacterial adhesion, zirconia is superior to titanium, and hence, more suitable for abutments. Both materials show similar capability for soft tissue adhesion." And from the Permadontics site" Our state of the art Implant Zirconia fixed teeth can eliminate the need to wear dentures or dental implant dentures. The only implant center in San Diego with an in-house Zirconia Lab."

Do gums grow around implants?

Tim O'Keefe | Aug 23, 2020
Ian Aires | Aug 23, 2020

The gums form a weak seal around the implants. However the good news is the gums are usually only 2-3 mm in height. Below the gum is the bone and this bone does attach directly onto the titanium of the implant. This is the magic of why dental implants are so successful. The human bone sees the titanium as normal human tissue and forms a very strong bond to the implant. This bond is called "Osseointegration" In fact titanium is now used for many different medical prosthetics such as knees and hips.

How soon after tooth extraction can you have an implant?

Tim O'Keefe | Aug 23, 2020
Ian Aires | Aug 23, 2020

The best and most predictable way to save the bone that has been supporting the tooth is to insert the implant immediately after the tooth is extracted. There are exceptions for example if there is gum infection or an abscess it 's then best to wait until the area has healed and is free of any infection usually about 6-8 weeks before inserting the implant.

Which is better dentures or dental implants?

Tim O'Keefe | Aug 23, 2020
Ian Aires | Aug 23, 2020

Dentures are very difficult to wear as they put a lot of pressure on the gums and cause the bone underneath the gums to resorb. Dental Implants are much better as they support the teeth and prevent any pressure on the gums.In addition dental implants are anchored to the bone and they therefore prevent the bone from resorption.

How long do dental implants last?

Tim O'Keefe | Aug 23, 2020
Permadontics | Aug 23, 2020

Implants should last many many years and if cared for properly should last a lifetime. The overall success rate has been reported as anywhere from 95 % to 100% over a ten-year period. I have treated many patients whose implants have lasted more than 25 years. ~Dr A

What are the advantages of dental implants over dentures or a bridge?

Permadontics | Jan 25, 2022
Permadontics | Jan 25, 2022

Improved appearance: When you lose an entire tooth, shrinkage of the jawbone can occur, which can cause your face to look older. Dental implants can stop this process. A traditional denture or bridge does not prevent bone loss in the jaw. Maintain natural teeth: With traditional practices, two teeth adjacent to a missing tooth must be ground down to anchor a bridge. Dental implants often eliminate the need to modify healthy teeth. Permanent solution: There are no loose parts to worry about. A dental implant is stable and comfortable. No adjustment is needed after installation. Normally, it will serve its owner for life.

What is a dental implant?

Permadontics | Jan 25, 2022
Permadontics | Jan 25, 2022

A dental implant is a small titanium screw that serves as the replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth. The implant is placed in the upper or lower jaw. It will bond with the bone over time and serve as an anchor for the replacement tooth. Dental implants can be used to replace a single lost tooth or many missing teeth.
