WHY ARE THEY SO BAD?? Hanging up the phone on people thinking they are the best thing since sliced bread. I don't understand where they get off treating people like total trash. THEY DON'T CARE about South African Citizens??? What is going on! Was asking a question and the "Supervisor" a women told me that I was being rude and told me that they are recording the call and that I have an audience listening... don't make me laugh. By the way they work 3 hours a day, it's such a tough life. Cry me a river and DO YOUR JOB for your citizens. TRASH BUSINESS.

Always greeted with a friendly voice calling in. When I could not reach them, they called me back. Mr. Makeba is very nice and extremely helpful! Great asset serving his fellow SA citizens in the US.

I had to renew my South African passport in April 2021. At first, I tried calling and visiting their location in person to no avail. Calls and emails weren’t answered. I mailed all the required documents to their mailing address and got an email response about a week later confirming my renewal request and that it would take at least 6 months to receive my new passport. No tracking number or updates provided. However, I’m very relieved to say that my passport arrived approximately 5 months after mailing in all the documents. Attached are pictures provided to me when I visited the embassy in person.

Per website, 5 business days. They ask you to leave your passport behind and leave a prepaid USPS envelope
Rosanna, drop the consulate an email. This is an efficient way to communicate and they respond quite promptly.
No, walk in during their counselor services hours.
You don’t need a visa if you’re staying less than I think 90 days
Tested it the 10 times still no answer 🤦🏻♀️
They do answer but it takes persistence. Other option if you are in LA is to go and see them. They are very accommodating and helpful.
I am a Nigerian resident in America (on Green Card). I will like to travel to South Africa in October 2018, How can i get the visa to go to Johannesberg - Pastor Alf Lukaul' s ministry. kindly give me a feedback/. Thanks.
They close at noon. Call Washington DC office they very helpful
Not sure. I only got a 90 day and it was free because the accords in between my country and SA
Nope
Yes it is. Unless you hold a diplomatic passport, you need to go to Los Angeles to the South African consulate and apply for a tourist visa
Don’t go to the consulate. Just follow the apostille (https://www.sos.ca.gov/notary/) process in your state and submit the forms to SA.
I suggest to call and ask for Mr.Makenna if he is available. He helped me with a passport renewal last week, and said I can call in 4 months for an update, and to see if the passort have arrived.
Birth certificate is good enough. As long as it shows you as the parents.
Whether or not you require a visa depends on your citizenship (country that issues your passport) - irrespective of how long you are visiting South Africa. For citizens of many countries a visa is not required for stays up to 90 days. You can see the list of countries here: http://www.dha.gov.za/index.php/immigration-services/exempt-countries
Yes you can apply for a new (replacement) passport there. It costs about US$33. And takes about 4 to 6 months as your application forms have to be sent by diplomatic courier to Pretoria, where all the passports are made, and then the passport will be sent back to that Consulate office.
AFAIK there's easy way to get a guarantee. Entry into any country is at the discretion of the immigration officer. Anyone can be denied entry despite proper documents.
Yes dear but did u register?
Yes it is acceptable. For PCC it is clearly instructed that one can get the fingerprints done at the consulate and send them in.
My daughter's student visa took about 3 weeks and her spousal visa took about 2-1/2 weeks. They have been very helpful, but it does take a long time. If it is the type of visa that requires them to go through the Home Affairs Office in SA, it will take a very long time.
I don't know specifically but I bet it'd be sooner. They're very kind and helpful (after the initial gatekeeping woman). Ask for Abbey Makena (man). He was lovely and very informative about the policies, etc.
You don’t have to come in.
Correct, US passport holders don't need a visa.Confirm with the consulate office or their official website. USA is one of the exempt countries for visa for south Africa. Safe travels
You should be fine as it is 6 months valid still. Does not hurt to call them to find out
I am not sure what the above Yes is for but I believe they get them from SA and they take forever
It expires on The 2nd of December 2018
Yes. I have found the office in Washington DC to be a lot more helpful
Yes unless he's not listed on the birth certificate
