Beautiful area and it's free. We came right at noon so it was really hot which is to be expected but still a beautiful place. Didn't go up to the actual hole unfortunately since one of us is allergic to bees and there was a sign that said the bees are active. Thought it was better to play it safe since we're from out of town and still had a lot more to see. The whole surrounding area is a nice slow drive too.

We loved this location! Easy hike and still great outdoor activity for almost anyone. No need to walk for miles or climb for hours to get a good picture of view. The place wasn’t so crowded either so you just had to wait a little before take a picture with nobody at the background. We recommend to everyone.

Awesome hike for just about anyone! You cannot miss coming here if you are in the Phoenix area. Hiking was a bit scary as we ascended and descended the Hole as it was steep near the top, but we were careful of how we placed our feet on the rocks and did not slip at all. I noticed that many others were confidently climbing in sandals and thongs. A relatively short climb. Nice views of the city and valley. You can see Phoenix and also the airport tower with planes approaching the airport to land. Bring your cameras for great photos. The trail was fairly busy on a Sunday late afternoon. We found parking in the closest lot although every space was full and many people were walking in from other nearby lots. Although the lots are small, we just waited a few minutes for someone to leave as people are always coming and going. Easy in and out, close to the freeways.

Time to kill before a flight? This is a great spot to soak in that last bite of warmth and sun. The walk to the “hole” is very short and easy (not a “hike” I did it in sandals). There are steps carved in to the rocks inside the hole. When you’re done, sit by the water & feed the ducks, take the sidewalk to the edge of 140 acres botanical garden, Desert Botanical. Or drive down the road for a meander though the garden. The Phoenix Zoo is also right here. Great last stop before heading home.

The gates close at 7pm.
No. It's too steep and very rocky. Bring a carrier or wrap if they can't walk yet.
The entire park is yours to picnic. :) But I agree with Luke, the oasis has some nice designated picnicking areas that I'd recommend.
There's also a big white pyramid called Hunt's Tomb nearby. Great views.
It is anywhere from 5 to ~40 minutes depending on what part of Scottsdale you are coming from as it ~borders the edge of South Scottsdale
