Pioneertown Mountain Preserve one more of the 27 located in California. Winter would be a much better time to visit.

Pioneertown Mountains Preserve is a nice preserve to visit with two large loop trails and some unique scenery and historic sites. There is an old homestead site ruin and petroglyphs along the main loop trail, and a creek which runs through the large wash. Worth a visit to go hiking if in the area.

Very nice preserve with good trails. The areas with water are much cooler in temperature, so you get a little break from the heat. When I went, I only saw 5 people, so it was quiet and peaceful.

These trails are beautiful and challenging enough. It's close by and not crowded. One of my favorite local hikes!

I am not sure about dogs. There are restrooms by the ranger station and picnic tables a 20ft or so away from the ranger station
