Amazing place to come and enjoy the sunset. Be sure to reach the gates by 7 because the entrance closes at that time. Me and my girls loved it. They had a blast and they're both under 3. This is Definitely a memorable experience.

there are many trails for hiking, some more difficult than others. It gets very hot here pretty quickly so bringing refreshments even for short walk is recommended. biking trails are indicated on map as well. lots of parking spaces on the way up the hill to the preserve.

South Mountain has everything you need to have a fun day on the mountain. If you want to have a picnic there are covered areas with grills. There’s lots of hiking trails and on this day I went up the Holbrook Trail which was a challenge with beautiful views. Along the way there are ancient pictographs which really give you a sense of how old this place really is. South Mountain can be chill to extremely challenging so make sure you are prepared and informed. All in all a great place to visit.

Absolutely breathtaking views. The traffic can be a little crazy and some people can’t drive up the winding roads but if you can get used to so many people going up here and causing a traffic jam it’s totally worth it. Easy hikes and great way to see the city. Plus there’s horseback riding at the base of the mountain.

Yes its open in winter september 2017!! 10:00am to 7:00p.m monday to sunday
Yes, one Sunday a month is reserved for Silent Sunday-no motorized vehicles. There's a visitor's center on the right hand side when coming in from Central.
It's open now certain views where closed out 2 weeks ago. I would call first to confirm.
No, you are free to park anywhere that isn't closed off with no cost from what I've seen.
They call it their "silent Sunday" program: Silent Sunday #SouthMountain Silent Sunday is held each Sunday year-round. On those days, the park’s main roadway will be closed to motor vehicle traffic at the one-mile mark into the park from 5 to 10 a.m. on the first, second, third and fifth Sunday of the month. From 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. (park operating hours) on the fourth Sunday of the month, the park roadway will be closed to vehicle traffic after the main Central Ave. entrance. During those times on those days, the park’s roadways are reserved for non-motorized activities such as walking, cycling, jogging, hiking, etc. On Silent Sunday, park visitors who would like to park near the main Central Ave. entrance can do so in the Activity Complex, which can be accessed just inside the entry gate and within proximity to several popular trails. Trailheads not accessed via the main Central Ave. entrance are not impacted by the Silent Sunday closures.
There is no overnight camping at South Mountain Park.
If you arrive before sunset and the ranger has not closed the gates you can stay
