Signed a lease well over 60 days in advance. A week before we were due to move in, the office calls and says we have to push back the move because the apartment isn't "move in ready," but they wouldn't specify why. We kept asking if whatever they needed to fix or finish was cosmetic or necessary, and we couldn't get a straight answer. So we wait the extra three days, get our keys, pay our money, and go to the apartment... To find it is INFESTED with roaches. They were everywhere; in the walls, in the AC, coming out of drains. That whole building (25 I believe?) must have been a nest. I immediately go to the office and they admit that they're aware but working on it, and offer to have someone out and spray. We never slept in the unit, and spent 4 days trying to bomb, spray, lay traps, all to no avail. We never even unpacked. Thank goodness there was a cancelation clause in our lease and we were able to get out of our contract without penalty. The manager was very helpful with getting our money refunded, but because of this we were homeless for a month since apartments in the area literally have no immediate availability, and we incurred so many extra fees with the cost of storage and multiple moving trucks. Every building may not have this problem, but the one we were assigned absolutely did. To add insult to injury, the infested unit was listed online as available two days after we canceled, so they completely ignored the issue and decided it was fine to rent it out despite it being completely uninhabitable. I would avoid this complex if possible or at least make sure you are able to inspect the unit you are applying for before agreeing to anything.

I had a very frustrating experience with Portola Del Sol Apartment Homes today. I stopped by to inquire about a two-bedroom apartment and learned that one would be available at the end of October. The lease at my current apartment is up on October 31st. So I thought I would go month to month at my current place for November, so I would have some overlap to move everything. At home, I created an account online to apply and realized that a one-bedroom was currently available. I called the office to see if I could view the apartment. I figured that if I could sign the lease at the beginning of October, I would have until the 31st to be out of my current apartment and wouldn't pay for the extra month. Unfortunately, I was told what I was trying to do was illegal. I wasn't allowed to have two leases, even for just one month. I explained that I had already paid my current lease in full. It was explained that I couldn't sign a lease there until I finished my old lease. So basically, I would have to put in 30 days' notice at my current apartment, wait until October 31st to sign the new lease at Portola Del Sol Apartments, and move and clean the old apartment on October 31st, which is a Sunday. I am shocked that this is such a big issue.
