Im homeless due to a negligent drive hitting me as a crossed a intersection at the appropriate time and place. I got off work and went to sleep in a neighborhood candlelight park area not parking braking any laws. Man come by lays on his horn for 5 minutes when I answer he screams and yells at me and says fight me. To which I respond come beat me up then I won't fight back (I'm recording the nutter on my phone) I'll take a beating so you go to jail. Realizing I'm not scared and this is only going to hurt legally him he flees the scene. I have all this evidence take it to the police they refused to look at it or press charges for disturbing the peace. At least they didn't take his false report and try and charge me. I only need to sleep sometime good town's folk. I'm don't commit any crime and I value and respect the planet and people but this disgusting behavior is not something the cops should just ignore. I totally agree there are homeless in this town that cause issues. Think about this tho there are 200,000 homeless in this city and most of them never bother anyone. Unless you are bothered by the merely existence of the downtrodden.

The police here don't care about protecting tax payers, they protect the homeless more. Yes I feel sorry for the homeless but not when they abuse my property. Eugene's police departments solutions are to stay indoors and let the homeless do what ever damage they want. I was afraid to go to my own house because they threatened me and was trying to find out were I live, great protection for those that obey the law. Guess I should be homeless to get police protection, so sad

I have always supported the police! Questioning that now. (22-084149) We recently had a man come into our company office, grab and slap an employee and threaten his life all on video we have the mans address phone number and name. we immediately had the employee file a police report. we were told they would come by and collect the threating emails and video, 9 days ago, crickets since. I called and asked for a supervisor and was told one would call me in a few hours. that was 3 days ago. I just called again and got the same run around.

Returning home after work, opening my front door, looking across to the back, I saw our patio door was shattered. Did not go in. Called 911 on my cell phone and was told the response time was an hour. It was well past 3 hours before a policeman arrived. I give them 1 star for showing up. Our house was thoroughly trashed. Every drawer was emptied and thrown on the floors. Bedspreads we’re lifted on all sides and thrown on the beds. Clothes and other belongings were pulled out of closets and thrown all over the floors. Our new 46” tv and recorder were gone. Our video recorder and all our family videos were gone, along with new video tapes. Jewelry and old, collectible coins were gone. The thieves must not have been intelligent enough to turn a knob because they broke down the door to the garage to leave. They took our suitcases and car. When the police arrived, three hours later, they saw the damage, the mess on the floors. We pointed out the shell casings on the living room floor, but they did not take them. They did not dust for prints. They behaved as if they were bored and anxious to get to the doughnut shop before it closed. When I pointed out the shell casings, one of them muttered, “Yup,” and wandered around like a little kid who pretended to be a real policeman. When we went into a bedroom and I mentioned the bedspreads shoved to the middle of the bed, one of them suggested the thieves probably got tired and took a nap! I couldn’t believe it! I thought, Barney Fife is alive and works for Eugene PD! It is impossible to overstate the ineptness and complete lack of professionalism of the policemen who mismanaged/bungled our case. This experience with EPD was in 2007. From the negative reviews, the Eugene Police Department still hasn’t improved any. I am glad we moved away from Eugene. I have no time nor patience to waste on police who are either untrained, too lazy, too ignorant, too important (or all of the above) to do their job. Our experience with EPD is a case of someone who wants a paycheck, but not the work.

It seems that this issue is one that has yet to be determined. Light trespass is a violation (neighbor flood lights beaming onto other properties), dogs barking excessively (+15 min) is a violation, etc... IMO, this simply needs to be challenged on the basis of personal privacy & the right for an individual to secure their own property ending at their property. Possibly the public street. Run with it! With urban density as the City's goal, these questions do need answers.
