Our family has been taking our boys to Parkwood Clinic for over a year now. Our experience has been spectacular all around! The clinicians are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, patient and communicative. Our kids started out working on some specific speech-related goals, which they helped us achieve, and have since transitioned into reading work. So happy to have found Ashley and her team :) We would highly recommend Parkwood to anyone looking for these kinds of services!

Two of my kids have used Parkwood services and I only have great things to say about the clinic and its practitioners. They take a goal-oriented approach to helping children navigate speech, language, and learning challenges. Regular touch bases with parents keep you up-to-date on how your child is progressing against his/her goals. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place. If your child is having challenges with speech or language, this is the place!

My son has come a long way ever since he started speech therapy when he was 3 years old. The people who we have worked with have been wonderful. They have provided excellent support and guidance throughout my son's speech journey. If you are looking for an excellent speech therapy clinic for your kiddos, this is the place!

Parkwood Clinic has been so helpful for my son. While at Parkwood, he has made up his speech delay and improved so much in many other ways. The quality of care has been consistently top notch, even with the challenges posed by the pandemic. The therapists are so kind and engaging, my kiddo looks forward to seeing them for his sessions. I cannot recommend Parkwood enough!

The length of time that a child spends in therapy is dependent on his or her individual needs. Length of time is also dependent on consistent attendance and follow-through in natural settings such as your home and the child’s school. A strong home component and caregiver training is necessary for the child’s success.
Speech and language skills encompass different areas. Language typically refers to the ability to comprehend and use words in sentences to communicate. Speech refers to the specific sounds we use to make words. For a greater understanding of typical speech and language milestones, please see our child benchmarks.
A Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is a licensed professional with the following qualifications: 1. Master’s degree in Communication Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited University 2. Passing score on a national exam in Speech-Language Pathology 3. Completed a 9 month Clinical Fellowship Year under a qualified supervisor to achieve his or her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) Despite these parameters, the titles are often used interchangeably.
Speech and language therapy is the evaluation and treatment of deficiencies in a child’s ability to communicate. These challenges may be seen in both oral and/or written language. The need for therapy is determined by a speech-language pathologist after an evaluation of the child’s current communication strengths and weaknesses.

No. Many people believe that “speech therapy” refers only to stuttering or pronunciation. Although that is piece of what we do, the role of a licensed and trained Speech-Language Pathologist crosses many communication domains. We create treatment plans that are therapeutic, fun, and functional for children ranging in age from 18 months to high school.
