Wonderful people and great place to visit to learn more about the city and county. Also one of the best place to do research as it is also the 2nd oldest historical society in Oregon with records on site.

The museum had several exhibits with many historical items on display and a room with information and examples of myrtlewood carvings. However, the most interesting part of the museum was the sign out front which told of the story of the lynching of Alonzo Tucker who was killed by a white mob in 1902. The museum also goes further into explaining Oregon’s complicated history with race as the only state accepted into the union with racial exclusion laws in their constitution. I briefly lived in Oregon, but I had never heard of many of the things I read about in the museum. I recommend going for the history lesson.

Lovely experience, plenty of local history to be had. Coming from a maritime family I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the museum. They have some really beautiful wood carvings, some of the best I've ever seen. It's very important to keep our maritime past alive and Coos Bay History Museum is doing their part. Well worth a trip.

Opened in 2016. Well curated history museum. Easy entry off the 101 and economical prices for admission. If you are interested in local history, early mining, gold prospecting and fishing make sure to stop in. Kid friendly.
