When we were there a few weeks ago, we stopped in around lunchtime to make a dinner reservation, they were already booked for the entire day.
For now, you can't make reservations for after 5:00. There are plenty of other places around if they are full.
We sat in the bar area by the window with no wait on a Friday. The lobby was full when we left at 630
I'm not sure about call ahead. We were able to sit outside with my dogs, no wait.
