After her father’s death in 1916, Louise Clover was active in running her father’s vast empire for many years. George Jr was well-provided for by his father, so he retired early and traveled.
According to the audio tour (which I highly recommend) Their son who was newly married was to live on the third floor with his wife. Clover (her middle name) had an adult styled 'apartment' next to her parents' rooms on the second floor because she was older when the home was to be finished. Upon their fathers' death 12 years after their mother died, I believe they split more than $20 million in assets. The son became President of the hotels and the daughter was vice president....a very unusual thing for the day. There is much more information within the mansion as well as the audio tour itself....you can download an audio tour for free called 'Boldt Castle' or buy it with a little recorder and earbud for $1 at the entrance. Using the audio that we purchased it took more than 3 hours plus because we took frequent breaks to read everything along the way....and enjoy an ice cream cone down by the waters edge under glorious trees! If we had more time we would tour the boathouse. Amazing!
