Can we dig clams on the beach in July? Is it true that the clams are toxic?

You can dig, but you have to check about the Red tide on the Washington State Parks page for it moves around quickly. I personally would not even chance it no where throughout the Canal.

Red Tides change. You'll have to check areas individually with Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. That information should be available thru their website. Or check out the Washington State Parks website and look up Dash Point State Park.

I wouldn't eat any shell fish in that area, but yes you are definitely able to dig and find clams.

I haven't heard anything to support that claim but I'd ask one off the park volunteers to be sure. I've heard of some red algae in the Sound area but am unclear which beaches and bodies of water were affected.
