Probably a good idea, it starts to warm up in the desert in May so locals might be trying to escape the heat. Although cottonwood area isn't that much cooler.
Dawn, Ben and Joe gave some very good advice. End of May is Memorial day and the start of Summer break. Most guests book when planning. I also reccomend a morning tour as it does warm up as the day progresses.
