This place is 100% a must do if you’re in the area. If you’re not in the area, it’s totally worth considering a trip over. The snack box you get is plenty of food. The bar on each cart is there to quench your thirst. The staff is knowledgeable about the train and the terrain. It was a pleasure to have Tracy and Marie look after us on our journey. The views were completely breathtaking. We will certainly be coming back!

Getting on a 50s style train a d cruising through the canyons was pretty great the staff was fun to chat with and very knowledgeable about the area. Our trip we actually had a heavy rain storm the cause a rock slide and damaged the track. It took them about 2 hrs to replace the damaged rain and we were on our way. Everyone was super patient and we were surrounded by amazing views so we didn't mind the extra time on the train. With all the rain the river was a bright brick red.

Although it's been years since we've been on this train it's actually nicer now than it was back in the day. The Scottsdale car that we rode in this time and last has been remodeled. It's not just newer. It used to seat like 55 people and now it seats 35-39. It's laid out totally different, much more room and the seats are much more comfortable with either a small table or coffee table in front of each seat. As someone that's had 7 major spine surgeries since my last ride, this is very much appreciated. I hate to cheap out on the review on the train ride, outside visual experience. There are people on here that can explain it better than I can as I live here. I will say it's 100% worth your time and money to experience this train ride and the people at the station and on the train are a class act. I can only hope you and your family can enjoy it as much as we have through the years. Be blessed! Oh! The meat/cheese/fruit tray we had on our ride was very tasty and was large enough to be considered a light meal or even a meal to some. 🙂

Wonderful train ride. Its about a 4 hour round trip; 20 miles out and the same 20 miles back. The staff seem to truly enjoy what they do and are very informative. You get a charcuterie box to nibble on plus drink service inside the car. The open air cars aren't that crowded but the best viewing spots get taken up quickly. I recommend purchasing a ticket on the right side of the train (the side facing the platform as you board at the depot). On our car, the Cottonwood car, all of those seats were two-top tables. The best views are on that side. Top tip, try to avoid the seats by the bathroom; the door doesn't latch from the outside and the smell will wander into the train car. Trust me on that one. The seats are comfortable and the train is only moving at a leisurely 10 miles per hour or so. Definitely worth your time an money for the experience and the unspoiled nature.

There was a vast range of price depending on the car you choose. We were served food and had very comfortable seating for around 85$. Worth every penny for 4hrs of train and beautiful scenery
Try to switch sides on the way back, they announce the places to look so if you sit on left switch sides on way back. Great people, great ride if you have never been on a train. Reservations are easy to do on-line, we found it even easier to simply call them. Lunch is included and beer & drinks are available. You will get to see a Bald Eagle too!
Food is provided in first class. Also there is food and drinks available to purchase at the station. You can bring it aboard. We brought our own water and snack's from home also. No problems. Very laid-back.
Our guide was very bubbly and I'm not aware of anyone not being able to hear her. I would have to agree that you likely had some overly noisy people in your train car. I also have some difficulty with my hearing, but again, I could hear everything our guide said.
Thank you for your interest. It is a four hour roundtrip. We turn around at the ghost ranch at Perkinsville. We do not get off the train so that is why we offer the open-air viewing cars throughout the journey.
Yes, you can reschedule for up to one year from your original travel date. No fee.
1:00 pm is our standard train ride, which is what we list for reference on Google. On December 6 we start offering our Magical Christmas Journey rides which run at 5:30 and 7 PM. You can find the 1:00 pm runs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in December.
You can call them but to be honest I would just go. No snow in the Verde Valley and I'm sure when you leave Payson roads would be clear and travel should be ok.
