Does a parent of a teenager have to attend an R rated movie with the child or does the parent only need to be present to purchase the ticket?

I believe you only have to purchase the ticket. Doing so essentially gives your consent to see the movie.

As long you're with them they wont ID you. You can also make sure that you're Teenage child has an ID with them.
