It's not a hospital policy, it is state law. Many states do allow 2 to 3 day psych holds on adults being admitted by family - there is nothing like this in NM.
Its so the wrong people don't force their kids to go. Just because you are a good parent does not mean everyone is. Not everybody should just go or be forced to go that go.
You can be his advocate. I am my son's advocate and signed a letter stating so. Look into that before you go into the law courts.
Look into the STATE/Federal Law. If your child is incompetent then you should go to the courts to get legal power to make decisions for him
