You & your family can fish for free at StateParks; No fishing license & stamp requirements for anyone fishing inside the property boundary of a Texas State Park

Dennis Johnston Park is NOT a state park, it is a Harris County Park. Yes, you need a license to fish at county parks. If you go to a state park outside Houston, you do not need a license. Either way, you should contact Texas Parks and Wildlife to find out more about fishing license requirements.

Harris County are catch & release, a license may not be required.

So yes state parks are free. County parks are not- get a license. There are designated times when they stock certain ponds that you can catch and keep your legal limit. Now is not that time. Go inside the3 Big Stone Lodge and talk to the staff. They'll be happy to tell you all about it.
