They almost always have open spots for tours. You may have to wait an hour or so. But I've never had to wait longer than an hour. You can get online and pay for the tour you want ahead of time.

I live here you don’t need to make a reservation but it would save you time if you do.
I didn't make a reservation when i went with my girlfriend, since it was just two of us, they squeezed us in within 30 minutes. I'd recommend reserving on the busier days, but it is pretty normal to just show up and book the next available tour (usually within the hour).
We only had a 30 minute wait to go on the tour. It was definitely worth it.

If you want to do the lantern tour, yes. It was full when we got there, but no problem getting the general tour.
